(2) Then, Gymboree from 12m-18m.
(3) Now at the Little Gym, planning to stay from 18m-24m.

Thanks very much!!
Your method (highchair) works perfectly with Hoyin.
I show him the flash cards after his meals so he can watch at least 3 times per day.
He likes to watch it and he will speak the words out if he knows.
I m very very pleased with his progress (hopefully can move on to phases and short sentences soon).
What stage is Jonas doing? (words, phases or sentences)

Yes, hoyin is just 1 month younger than Jonas.
He is still on words stage on flash cards but I m showing him phases on PPS.
He can speak a lot of words and phases now so I want to move on to stage 2 when he learns more words.
I will keep trying for another month (words) and see how he goes!!

我都係用Highchair, 不過都只係玩到, 中英文咭各五張, 數點卡在哪裡玩都無問題, 因為Samuel好鍾意. Samuel現在字咭在Stage 2 短句.

Samuel咁快已去到stage 2 短句嗱 咁其實我都應該開始lu wor，因詞語都玩左好耐！但見到仲有一大疊字咭未用，有d驚，唔知幾時至玩得晒！

日希可以坐定定一次過睇晒各25張中、英文咭！

Joshua can now 讀 most of the alphabets and he can relate some alphabets to the words such as A--> apple, D-->duck, dog, C-->car, cup, E-->egg, Y-->yo-yo... and can also 讀 most of the numbers from one to ten... (for those alphabets he can't speak out, he still can point to you the alphabet on the ABC poster you ask him or the related word ...)

Interestingly, dunno why, sometime in a day, I find that he 'knows' the 'trick' of the numbers '6' and '9' by rotating the book many times and say 'six', 'nine'...      

However, there're some 'alphabets' he still doesn't like to 'speak out'... such as 'B', 'P', 'T'        but he can speak out the words 'ball', 'bowl', 'banana'     

and we find that these days he starts to read our 口型 to say the word out     

I guess it may because he likes phonics kids soooooo much ... he can follow the narrator and speak 'a','m'--> 'am'...'a''d'-->'ad'...     

I'm now 'seriously' thinking of buying either 'Letterland' or 'Jollyphonics' to teach him phonics...        

Any advice?

Dear fat,
Samuel is such a good boy!
He must be very 定 when he was little.
When Hoyin was little (before 1), he was very 定 and could watch flash cards and listen to stories for an hour.
However, after he can walk, he can hardly stop for a minute (unless reading books or eating).
As I only do Chinese flash cards with him, he only need to watch 25 cards at a time.
I show English, Maths & general PPS to him on my laptop which he likes it.
His memory is so amazing that he can remember the words and the word order.
He can call out the next card before I flash it.
However, he is very moody (he will do really well when he likes it but do very very badly when he is not in a good mood).
Therefore, doing flash cards after meals is a very very good idea (always happy after eating).

I m starting to write more books for him and hopefully he will not tear them again!

Hi tazmanic,
Hoyin could only say one word when he was before 15 month which is Daddy.
He said daddy for everything (milk, food, poo, sleep...).
After 15 months, he suddenly started to speak (start with words) then around 17 to 18 months, he started to say phases (go out, eat food, drink milk....).
I m helping him to speak full sentences now (always ask him to speak full sentences) and use his language to ask for things.
Dont worry!! Your boy is still very young (a lot of boys dont speak until 2+).
One of my friends, he is a very very smart guy and he didnt speak until he was 3 (his parents thought that he might be deaf).
As your son is speaking something (space language) which is preparing him to speak adult language (try to pay attention to his space language and see whether you can pick up some meaningful words there).
Hoyin now practises speaking when he wakes up in the morning (in his bed coz I dont want to get up too early).
I can hear that he is trying to repeat different words and put different words together (no meaning at all).

He looks a bit different from this one (big boy now).
I think Joshua is doing very well (knowing so many alphabets & numbers).

I only teach Hoyin Chinese now and will start to teach him phonics when his Chinese is a bit better (after 3).
I will teach him phonics by myself and might look into some books and flash cards then.

By the way, I m doing Montessori with Hoyin at home now (only 1 hour per day) and will send him to a Montessori preschool later (2.5).
I found it very very good and Hoyin loves it (able to choose what he wants to do).

Long time no chat too.

Happy to know that Hoyin loves 'Montessori' teaching.

I'm very interested in Montessori teaching also.

However, having searched for quite some time on this area, I found that there's not much courses/materials available in HK (I mean those 'real' Montessori courses/materials and not those with it as 'label' only)

Those 'real' courses available in HK are located in 'luxurious' areas such as 'Repluse Bay', 'Mid levels'... where are very far away from my home.

and I've talked to a licensed Montessori teacher also and she also found that there's not enough 'promotion' in HK...

However, she suggested me how to built a 'Montessori' environment at home to teach my son...

I also have read a few books from Ms Montessori.

I have setup our living room as a montessori classroom (not very formal).
I have four areas (art, language, maths & pratical life).
I bought or made or borrowed materials for him and just let him choose to learn or play.
I only do 1 hour per day (working time) with him (very time-consuming to prepare and do) and he can freely play all materials any other time.
I m still on a trial period so I dont know how long I can maintain it (spend a lot of time to learn the materials and design teaching methods).
I have enrolled him to a few Montessori preschools (from 2.5 to 6) and hopefully he can get in one of them next year.
It is quite common and cheap to go to Montessori preschools here (same as private preschools).
I m sure that Hoyin will love it (we had visited the schools already).

I have just checked against montessori asso. earlier, this is the current list of registered schools in HK:

1. Montessori School of Hong Kong (Mid-Levels)
2. Nan Guang International School (Sheung Shui)
3. Small World Christian Kindergarten (Borrett Road)
4. Woodland Montessori Pre-School (Kam Kin Mansion)
5. Woodland Montessori Pre-School (Mid-Levels)
6. Woodland Montessori Repulse Bay Pre-School (Repulse Bay)
7. The International Montessori School (Wanchai)

You can call and arrange visit to these schools and understand their pre-school Montessori program.  However, some local kinders also mention they use Montessori in their program, but dunno how serious they are and how the program incorporates other systems.

NO    

I didn't use any special phonics system in teaching AliBB, I started with a set of Oxford books (about 40 small books) about sounds, then AliBB picked up all the sounds in a few days after reading the books.  I also learned from those books how to practise with AliBB in daily life, and so, we practise the sounds daily, and I think this is how AliBB learned the phonics...

1. what is the taste of
- coke and diet coke
- chocolate
- ice-cream
- chilli
- ketchup (AliBB's favorite)
- durian (Also AliBB's favorite)
- ice...

2. how to blow off candles (to prepare for her 2yrs birthday party )

3. painting on the walls and bath tub

4. weekly outings like visiting museums, zoo, flying kite, etc.

(is "生活體驗" a very good name?     )
