FT網站找不到的, 阿女學校應該係報紙上剪低, 貼上校內壁報板俾學生睇. 我以前係HK某GCSE補習中心都見過同樣的FT學校排名剪報

My friend highly recommends Junior Kings School Canterbury whose kid studied Grade 8 here.

For state school, I don't have too much knowledge on junior forms.

I am afraid I have no idea on Reed's.

But once you accept the offer and subsequently withdraw the acceptance of offer, your deposit fee will not be refunded and you may be liable to at least a further one term's school fee.

I don’t think that it is a must to spend one more year in UK to study two-year A level course if your DD can perform well in DSE next year.  If your DD can obtain 444 results in three electives of DSE, your DD will most probably be admitted by most second tier universities in UK next year.  Otherwise, the admission requirements for most UK university foundation courses is 322 in three electives.

For Reeds, you may consider starting a new thread in mumsnet.com to see whether any UK parents can help you making final decision.

http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/seco ... pshire/AllOnOnePage

For Reeds, there are only 60 girls in this school. Normally, there is more flexibility for sixth form students. You may ask the agency or Reeds the following questions to help you making final decision:

-        Do boys and girls share same boarding house or separate boarding house for boys and girls? How many Chinese in boarding house?

-        How is the English language support for IELTS exam (since your DD does not have IGCSE English)?

-        Are sixth form students allowed off site during weekdays (My son’s school allows off-site from Monday to Friday provided students return to boarding house before 9:00 pm)?

-        How’s the internet and wifi access in the school?

-        What are the compulsory ECAs after school?

-        Is there extra paid tuition for weak subject for student upon request?

-        Are there any min requirements for promotion to Year 13 (My son’s school does not allow students to take four subjects in Grade 13 if students cannot achieve Grade B in each subject in Grade 12 exam)?

My elder son is studying Grade 13 now.  However, my son finds extremely boring in UK despite I thought that he was so lucky to be admitted by this school in 2012.  Now I incline to think that the boarding life is more important than the overall ranking of the school.

Perhaps you can discuss with your DD on her aspiration of pursuing studies abroad and whether the boarding facilities, school enviornment, students mix, academic level, ECAs of Reeds fit her.  The boarding life is the main focus of your DD's life in the school in the next two years.

You may consider requesting Reeds to defer your deposit payment and arrange a preview school visit or boarding expereience for your DD in Reeds during 22-26 April (HK school holidays whilst msot UK schools start summer term on 22 April)  before making final decision.

Hi CPU1995

I have asked the school the questions you mentioned before. The admission office reply immediately and this makes me feel that the school is quite helpful. Here are the answers:
1                    Yes, the Sixth Form Boarding House does house both boys and girls but the girls have a separate wing which is obviously locked off from the boys side.  The girls also have their own social area.  There are likely to be 42 boarders next term of which 7 will be either from Hong Kong or mainland China.
2                    Students either have one-to-one or small group lessons for the IELTS exam.  It is usually a double lesson each week.  In the lead up to the exam in March of their first year, students have more intensive lessons – so they have their double lesson as well as some after school sessions.  All these are free of charge.
3                    No, Sixth Form students are not allowed off site during weekdays and can only leave the school at weekends either to be taken out by a family with the parents’ permission or to go to the local town with the permission of the Housemaster.  In both cases the students have to sign in and sign out so that we know where they are.
4                    There is good internet and Wifi access throughout the school and also in the Sixth Form rooms.
5                    There are ECA’s after school each day and Sixth Formers have to sign up to an activity on 2 afternoons per week.
