I know someone's kid born in September 2002 will start N1 this coming term.  

If you look at the result, the good schools (La Salle, DBS, DGS etc.) mostly rest in A & B class where I suppose the kids are born earlier in the year!

看來生小朋友, 都要選定1-6 月生, 等他們做大囝, 但以前的人, 大多覺得早一年讀書是有著數的, 我生天穎時都有這諗法    , Cyrus 原本都是細囝, 但Man 都決定遲一年先俾Cyrus 上 N1

What Miss Leung meant is when the kids apply for public schools during the first round and of course private schools too.  Schools will look at your profile and age is one of the essential element.

I thought the classes are divided by month of birth.  N1D are mostly for kids born between September to December.

我啱啱打咗去教統局，佢哋話派位係公平ge，無分大囝/囡 或 細囝/囡，至於 出世紙ge check digit 都無關係。
問題係 私校 同 直資 会以 大囝/囡 或 細囝/囡 為優先取碌。

其實好多人都話唔公平, 但教統局就話公平, 我個人都覺得 大囝/囡是著數d, 但究竟攪珠是公平定唔公平呢?? 都幾難有中肯的判斷了

The first round when you go for a public school, they look at your profile including the birthdate.

The lottery bit I guess would not look at the birthdate but then they would know if you have got admitted by other private schools.  If yes, sorry!

But most people would harbor some private schools first just in case.

So there is no win win solution.
