Re: 2005年9月入讀約克的入來傾

其實我想問你, 你女女英文程度較高, 有很多名校可選擇, 例如st. catherine, efs, plk歐陽少芳等, 為甚麼會選york??
Hi Miffy,
Your question recall my sad experiene.
Last year, Rosaline actually attempted several schools, which included York/St. Catherine(SC)/Kentville(Kent)/St. Rose(SRK)/St. Pauls(SPK).
Only York admitted my daughter!
I was really upset. I reflected and reviewed this case. I also talked to my friends to see what was happening. The following were the findings:-
1. Rosaline had been in YMCA playgroup ever since she was 1-yr old; she couldn't adapt to the pressurized interviewing environment; this was the case for SC/Kent/SPK; Rosaline even cried in SC! She felt shy & made no response to the interviewers of Kent/SPK;
2. the schools were not interviewing the kids, instead, they interviewed their parents; I failed because I couldn't help or assist Rosaline when she felt shy or could take the instructions given by the interviewers; this was the case for SC/Kent/SPK, the school would still accept if parents could help the babies;
3. for the case of SRK, it was really odd; Rosaline was playing happily there, she could follow all the interviewer's instructions and completed all the tasks given; she could even communicate with the interviewer in English! She was still declined! My friend told me that because my wife was a working woman and we parents were not catholics.
Someboday suggests me to make second attempts for SC/SRK or CCKG this year. I don't want to. I tell you the reason.
Pls be aware that Rosaline couldn't speak or understand Cantonese before starting kindergarten.
During the interviews, Rosaline couldn't follow the interviewers. In York, my wife told the interviewer this fact and she instantly switched to talk to my baby in English. But in Kent, the interviewer declined speaking in English that frustrated my wife.
My feeling is that, choose a kindergarten that really loves your kids. Don't choose a kindergarten that loves you (parents).
As long as York has treated my baby good and Rosaline can enjoy studying there, leaving her there for another 3 years may not be a bad choice. Of course, being her parents, we have to contribute more should we want her to be in famous primary schools. MCS is still our preferred choice though the chance is remote. SFA/DGS is also good choice but we will have to pay money!
Besides, I had also conducted in depth study on these schools concluding the followings:-
1. SC can train up your kids to be a native English speaker; but reading English is not so strong; admission rate to MCS is very high that's why so many parents prefer SC
2. Kent is vry tough and can train up your kids to face pressure, but no other strengths; the addmission rate to MCS is also quite high that's why parents also prefer Kent
3. SRK/SPK can train up your kids to be 'good girls'; academically they are not very strong; but they can gain easy accesses to their direct primary schools
4. For York, they can train up your kids to be strong both in speaking / reading English but not a native English speaker!
York is not a bad school given its long history and proven record in teaching English. Besides, they love your children.
So my suggestions to Yoko1 are:-
1. understand the character of your kid and choose the suitable school; before hand, you have to choose the right playgroup also; if you prefer SC/Kent/SPK, don't go to YMCA though it is well known very skillful in developing your kids;
2. well prepare yourself also should you want to apply the above mentioned famous schools
3. prepare to tell lies that you are housewife should you are a working woman
4. be catholics
Hope I'm not talking too much.
