Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Oh.... Monica was back to HK so early.  I have omitted her as I know you will invite her to come.  When will she back?

I think I am free for these days.  Critic, how about you?

Do both of you have any suggestion for lunch?  I can go anywhere.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Dear all Shanghai mommies,

I am very very very happy (wanna cry) to find HK mothers living in Shanghai. I am now in HK and will give birth on coming March! However, as my hubby have to work in Shanghai, we are now separate until our baby born

Before I came back HK, I used to have pregnancy check in Sino-Americano Gyn/Ob clinic in Hua Shan Hospital. However, they charged so expensive everytime, and so I decided to labour in HK instead! And now I am worrying whether there are good Kids Doctors and could give my baby 5 in 1 injection (which same as HK) in Shanghai....I wanna come back to Shanghai asap after baby born, and so my husband will be able to see me and baby soon!!!!

Any mommies could give me any information? I really don't want to stay in HK so long until baby finish all the 5-in-1 injections...thank you very much!

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

sandydojo,

Welcome to our chat topic!  As I know sino is expensive for individual consultation.  However they offer a package from beginning check up till give birth is fine.  Anyway it's too late la...

For Vacination, my daughter had 2 times 5in1 & 1 Hap.B in Shanghai World Link Clinic.  The procedure like this:
1/ A simple but expensive body check up before injection.  It cost almost RMB1000.
2/ They order the drug for you from UK (brand-GSK).  You will responsible for the shipping fee.
3/ They will call you when the drug is come.

You will have a write paper (針紙) from HK, and you need to ask for World Link to mark each record for you.  I can't remember the exactly amount were paid.  Just about RMB1000-1500 for each injection.

Even each injection above RMB1k is not resonable. If you compare the total cost of injection with airticket, you will find having injection in SH is cheaper :-x

My daughter will has her last 5in1 in HK instead of SH.  I prefer to bring her HOME.

Voice out if you have any queries.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Dear 11月媽媽,

Thanks alot for your detailed advice! You are right, if considering the cost of air-ticket, it is worth to have 5-in-1 vaccination in SH instead of HK, also, I don't want my baby to take flights so frequent, it may not good for her and the passengers in the flights too

Before, I really decided to labour at Sino-Americano under those packages. However, finally I still feel Hong Kong is better place for labour (esp. for HK ppls), no matter the medical, facility, cost, and communication. So, after several consultations there, which had costed me over RMB10,000 including blood tests, 2D & 4D ultra sounds...I finally went back to HK in last December during my 7 month pregnancy!!!! (We don't wanna spend much on consultation in SH anymore    )

Anyway, I am very happy to found you and other HK mommies who are living in Shanghai! As I am fresh to take care of baby (i.e. this is my first bb), please don't mind if I ask your advices on baby caring!

Again, thank you very much!

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

11月媽媽,

My baby is similar as your baby's age and was born in Dec.  If I want my son to get in the "Soong Qing Ling" kindergarten, what time should I submit the application? I am afraid I will miss the chance to apply as I know there will be a long quere in this kindergarten, and because we are now living in HK until this July or August.  Do you have any suggestions?? or any other SH mums have any comment on this??

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Dear Sandydojo,
I understand your worry as I am also expecting my baby in May in HongKong and want to join my husband as soon as possible after delivery.
However, I think the first 3to 4 months of the newborn bb is very fragile and critical.I would rather stay in Hong Kong till the BB is stable. May be I don't have much confident in the medical system in SH.
Can you talk to your husband and take some paternity leave?
To my experience, You will be very busy after delivery and what I found is that IT IS MY MOTHER ,not my husband, is the most helpful and crital person     during my postpartum period.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Dear Angela,

Yes, I agree with you, SH medical system is not reliable unless paying high medical fee in foreign based hospitals. Also, in HK, my family could take care of me during my postnatol period, I did consider to stay at HK a few months more after baby born before! However, when hearing my husband was so lonesome at home and no one cooks for him after work, I really want to be with him as soon as I can!!!

My hubby is doing his best to take annual leave for coming to HK, but most critical is that I want him to be with me when I give birth, but I am afraid that he may not be able to catch the time if I will have natural birth! So now, I am thinking if Ceasarian is better for me or not...

But no matter how sooner I wanna go back SH, there are many documents I have to apply for newborn baby in HK! Esp. those travelling passports to overseas and mainland. I also think that it is better to have first 5-in-1 vaccination in HK for my baby...so, accumulating all these factors, I don't think I could go back SH immediately after baby born

In fact, I have stayed in SH for one year! Before I came back to HK, someone adviced me to employ Ayi for taking care of baby and doing housework, so I could take more rest during my postnatol period. The wage is cheap (around RMB1000 or less/month), but as per some SH mommies' opinion, some Ayi are not reliable, so better to find the one who is introduced by friend!

Btw, I am glad to know there are HK mommies staying (or will stay) in SH, so I will not be so lonely when I go back! Before, I used to stay at home everyday for doing nothing (coz don't wanna work under local employment, salary is too low!) I hope we will meet in SH one day for sharing our babies' care taking!!!

Keep in touch!

Sandy

Dear Shanghai Mommies,

I want to know when the earliest time that newborn baby could take a flight? Should I apply all the travel documents for my baby in HK, e.g. 特區護照, 回鄉証 & 回港証?

Thank in advance!

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

CWong

Basically I don't know how long does it take for applicaton of  "Soong Qing Ling" kindergarten.  I wanna to visit the one at Hua Shan Road this week.  Unfortunately, my daughter is sick since Saturday.  Hence I don't think I can go before CNY.  The best one "Soong Qing Ling" kindergarten is at 虹橋.  Critic had a long message in details in this topic.  You may to to page 2 or 3 under Little Wings for searching a link of Int'l school.

My friend told me if we join the play group of them, baby can be easlier to join kindergarden.  I really want to have a visit and share with you soon.  Hope the weather and my daughter s health condition are good before this weekend.  I may try to go once both ok.  We are leaving SH this Sunday.

Sandy,

I had the simliar situation with you.  I went back to HK when carrying 7 months of my daughter.  The main reason of c-session I had was the date of delivery was under control.  My hubby sent me to hospital and stayed with us in HK for a month.  We returned to SH when baby was 1.5 months.  We hired a full time (11am-9pm) ahyi for less than one month.  I couldn't leave my baby to her and take rest.  Therefore she was only doing house works for 10 hours per day.  Talking about SH ahyi should open a new topic, it would has a lot of stories.

I've been here almost 3 years.  7 or 8 ahyi served us.  And now I have two, one for cleansing 0930-1230 and the other for cooking 1900-2100.  Totally costed RMB1200.  Not cheap but I can have free day time.  If you are full time mami in future, you will find that ahyi with you in a flat is not very comfortable.  Especially if you baby is easy to awake by noise....my girl is.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Dear 11月媽媽,

Today, I have made decision to have c-session on early March (two weeks earlier than my EDD), so I could come back to SH sooner once baby finish the first 5-in-1 vaccination. Your case makes me feel peace and I do really want to employ Ayi for doing household! But, for baby caring, I will not allow Ayi to take care! Coz' I have found many Ayi who looks so dirty in my home village who took care of their employer's babies, they likes to show the babies to other strangers and let them kiss and touch! I absolutely cannot accept this happen to my kids!!!

I think I may need your advices when I come back to SH for hiring Ayi...I have no experience on hiring full-time Ayi, just had only one time for asking Ayi to clean up my house! In fact, I have heard many bad experience from my friends who hired Ayi As you mentioned, we'd better to open the topic for discussing SH Ayi...

Btw, did you apply all the travel documents for your baby in HK before you moved to SH? Were those doc. spent you long time to wait?     Kindly advice!!!

Thank thank!

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Oh, it is so nice place to know HK Moms in Shanghai. I'm also a newborn's mom who is living in Shanghai. I give birth in HK on Jan 3 this year and will back to Shanghai in late Feb. He is my first baby.

Hi Sandy,
I have same case as yours, I applied 回港证, 回乡证 and passport for baby. 回港证 is issued immediately when apply. For airline, there is no limitation for flying.

Right now, I'm searching paediatrics in SH, does anyone have experience in 国际妇幼 on paediatrics ? Also, searching Ayi for household work, but it is not easy. My colleague give me a local Ayi agent- which specify in Ayi who can take care of baby, and they introduce one to us who claim she had experience in cooking, taking care of bb from new born to few years old, when during interview, we asked what kind of milk powder she knew, she cannot answer exactly what brand. So I am quite worry if she had taken care of newborn before!

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Sandy,

No thanks lah! We should take care of our 同胞嘛!

I saw a lot of unbelivable cases here of ahyi.  So I won't leave my daughter to her.  For hiring ahyi, you can ask your husband to hire one first.  Agency is allowed to change and very effecient.  You really need an assistance when you return to SH.  And while taking care of a little baby, you have no spare time to interview them.  If you need agency's no., I can pm you.

For the travelling doc. I've applied for 特區 & 回鄉卡.  Because my husband is holding foreign passport.  I told the guy of HK immgration that we brought baby to his home town. And they treated my case as urgent.    As I know if you don't need 特區, you can apply for 回港証. It takes one day only.

My case, baby was born on Nov 1st.  We came back on Dec 25th.  (waited for my husband to HK to pick us up).

By the way, I'll be in HK 初一至初十. If you have further queries, you may call me then.  PM u my hk no. soon.  Don't worry, all will be fine!! Take good care!

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

FatBMom,

Happy to talk to you.  In my experience, when my daughter was 1.5 months.  She was 水土不服 when her first came to SH.  We consulted 国际妇幼 and found that's not good for baby.  After that we went to 楓林路復旦大學兒童醫院.  Finally she recovered.

Don't hold high expectation on ahyi, most of them come from country side. They even don't know how to use diaper(mine was).  They brest feed baby till  6 or 9 mths or 1 year old.  Then baby eats what audit eats.  Some will have baby caring training.  However their knowledge and defination are not = ours.  Tell you one thing, my ex-ahyi is SHese.  She has had some years of taking care baby experience.  She used my nipple brush to clean the tap filter.  When I saw her washing the filter by the brush, I told her that is for cleansing nipple only.  She said NEVER MIND, the tap filter is running 純凈水. It's clean.  Oh...my god, my baby was 水土不服 and she did so.  You can imagine how angry I were.  As a result, she was fired two weeks later.

Just a short remind, SH is cold and last for March.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Dear FatBMom,

Glad to know that you had the similar case as mine, I hope I will apply all the document for baby soon, so I don't need to wait so long in HK and would come back Shanghai to meet my husband soon!

Regarding the hospital 国际妇幼, I had bad impression from them! During my early stage of pregnancy, I made a phone call to check if any prenatol check for non-local or foreigners, then, the lady shouted at me in the phone by speaking mandarin, and said that they cannot speak English to serve foreigners!!! I was shocked of their poor attitude to non-local patients, and doubted if the doctors are able to give good treatment to patient then!!!

I think the hospital adviced from 11月媽媽 is good! As my husband's colleague had brought his son to there once and get recover finally! But, non-local ppls likes us must be charged expensive for seeing a doctor! Always spend around or even more RMB1,000 for each time!

Please keep in touch! I do really wanna meet you all one day in SH!

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Dear 11月媽媽,

Thank for you kindness, your advices always refresh me and let me know more on what I need to care of! We have many similar points, as my husband also obtain foreign passport (he is Japanese), thus why I need to apply 特區 for my baby as we want to take her to Japan after born! After reading your case, I may "apply" the way as yours and hope the immigration officer will release the visa for my baby early!

Yes...I really need Ayi to do the housework after I will come back to SH. I will PM you my contact no. too, so we can have a further contact no matter in HK or SH!

Glad to hear that you will come back HK to celebrate CNY! I think CNY mood in HK is better than SH, and ppls likes shopping around! But in SH, I was scared by those 烟花 & 炮杖, too dangerous I think!

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Dear C Wong:

The earlier you registered for your son, the higher chance your son can get into the school

I registered for my son in Oct 04 of  2005 nursery classe . They told me that it should not be a problem to my son cos of my early registration. My impression is that the seat is base on first come first serve.

You will like the school very much after you visit school. The campus is very big and has a lot of outdoor spaces for the kids to run around. They even has an indoor swimming pool for K2 & K3 student.
