Sorb, you are right.  Just like most of the children like drawing, but my son doesn't like.... and even toys, most of the boys like playing cars, but my son loves cooking games!

To me, looking for edcuation centre to learn English is just like Trial an Error.  A course that fit one kid may not fit you and it also depends on the expectation of a mum.  So, I think it is good th ...

My son doesn't really like to do his homework of writing, I think its because he dones't like to copy. He just wants to write in his own way. Every time I have to rubber out several times of his homework, I know this is not good to him, but his writing is really bad, I have to hold his hand to do with him. Really time consuming.

GIPW,

Thank you very much for the information.

Since KCS is using "oxford story tree" as english books, is that RWI using same story books? Are they same?

One of my friend's kid is having Cambridge English. She said the first leverl was hard for the kid who was not live in a english speaking family.

BTW, I can't find any bigger size pencil in the book store, but just colour pens. I brought some 筆套 to mak pencils thicker instead.

RWI is not using Oxford Story Books.  My kid has joined RWI for 4 months but quited as it did not fit my expecation (or my girl).  It is using "Read with Phinine" book series at the elementary level, another interesting set of books.

To declare, I am not saying RWI is not good, just not fit my girl only. So, don't be scared by my case : )

Same as me...  my son used to write about 3 times if there is no lines on the book.  Even with the lines to copy, he just write whereve he wants I totally agree that doing homework with him is time consuming!

For Cambridge English, I think you are talking about the one that will have the students to sit for the Starter, Mover, etc.  If really exam oriented, I can imagin those courses will not be that interesting and will have the students to 操 a lot of exercise.  I doubt if it is good for a small kid to learn a language like this woh.......but if one wants a certificate for P1 interview, I think no harm to join.  But I think to learn a language well at such a young age, I prefer them to learn in a fun way.....without exam pressure.

小小年紀就已經要為考試而學習... 所以如果我比我個小朋友去考, 我唔會要佢專門上堂去學, 況且要5歲先考得, 我個仔考完劍橋個試, 人家直資都已經收晒生好耐

concerning about doing homework, i prefer not always rub out those did by my daughter (even it was not written very good). For those words written very badly, i will try to rub them, however, if just some minor ones, i will leave them to the teacher and they will mark them back in "red pen" what's wrong with the kids' writing. I think it's a good way to let my daughter knows she did not write good for some words (at least has not reached the teacher's standard).

This way works fine for my daughter, she will write it with more patient next time and looks she can get some improvement.

Hi YiuChunMa
For Cambridge English, they only emphasis on Exam.  For my experience, you need not spend money on this, just buy the exercise and do at home.  Last time my girl took the exam when she is K3 and got 14 shields while of my friends sit for mover and got 1r shields too and we have not gone for any courses.  Just simply download the syllabus and go thru the word with your children.

Agreed that this is mostly for knocking door purpose.  My boy is also a small boy but bigger than Tata1668 one, by the time he got his result, he will have attended all the interview already.

But I think I will still ask him to sit for the exam not in Sept as this is the prime time for interview, maybe in Dec

My approach is the same as bwm.  If we keep on erasing our kids' badly written words, they may lose confidence or interest in writing gradually.........

GIPW, for Cambridge English, even teach at home by ourselves, our kids will still have the exam pressure and need to 操 exercise..........I still have reservation on letting our kids to sit for public exam in KG stage.  My approach is different from yours : )

I really have many ideas & suggestions from all of you via this sharing, thank you all, very useful.

From this week, I am trying to control my hands not to erase my son’s writing, unless it is very unacceptable. Teacher’s correction should be more useful for him to understand the standard of the school.

I agree with Sorb that I also don’t want to put too much pressure on my son at kinder stage, I wish him to have a happy kinder life, because he will have exams in the coming 10+ years. I am really appreciated that KCS doesn’t need to dictation, exam etc. Its good for kids, at least they will not refuse to go to school.

I understand the feeling of being earsed off the homework... cause my mom did that to me when I was a child... I always remind myself cannot expect the small boy to write a perfect word.  I just need him to write inside the box, and look like what it should be.  So far, he is improving

GIPW, I might let my son to take the Cambridge exam when he reaches 5.  I won't take any courses cause I think he can handle that.  Well, still have more than 1 year.  How long did your daughter prepare for the first exam?

Sorb, I think it is ok for the kid to attend the public exam in K3 wor (unless you have to attend a lot of courses and do tons of papers before the exam).  It could be an experience and she might easy to handle her exams.  By the way, I used the method that you suggest last time.  My son collects stickers by finishing his homework everyday.  3 more stickers then he can get his reward - a Chinese Dino Book!  He works so hard

Well, Tata1668, from what we have shared, I think you know my way of nuturing my kid.  I am pretty relax (you can say due to my laziness) and do not "buy" the approach to "drill" too far at young age.  Learning is a life long process, she will have to face the reality of exam in P1 (and then for another 16 years), I wish to let her enjoy her childhood in KG stage and then face exam when she is a bit older......when in P1, I trust she will be able to understand more what's the meaning of exam.

You plan to sit for it when your boy reaches 5, right?  As my girl is not a small "B", she will be 5 half a year later, I really cannot imagin how she understand the concept of exam and is willing to sit inside an exam hall for such a long time to finish the exam half a year later.  This seems like a 天荒夜譚 to me : )

You and GIPW, add oil!!! You 2 have my spiritual support though I will not join you 2, hahaha.......

Hi

I will let my son attend the exam too.

My girl just took 2 months to prepare the exam.  I bought some of the exercise and let her do then most important  to be able to spell some fo the vocab that you can get from the syllabus.  She thinks it is fun just told her this is another kind of game and no pressure on her on whatsoever result that she might get.

GIPW, I like your term - "another kind of game"!

Sorb, thanks for your spiritual support!  I didn't think of the exam before, just the phonics teacher suggested my son can try it.  Um... still have plenty of time to decide whether take it or not.

GIPW, both of your kids are genius, if I had a kid who was as smart as your girl or boy, I think I wouldn't have reservation to let them sit for exam at such a young age.
