I dont think they only want to earn $30 by holding interviews. They did allocate a lot of resources and paid effort organizing the interviews.
My son went to the interview at about 1:30pm on Sun. Maybe the teachers just took lunchbreak and I found that the interviewers were very sincere and patient at the interview. To be frankly, they might get very very tired and seemed impatient at the end of the day.
I also felt disappointed that my son is put on waitlist too. My elder son graduated from KM last summer. I really hope to let my younger son study there too...
I think it is unfair to say that KM interviewed so many kids because of the $30 application fee. If you play the "game", you have to follow the rule. Everyone knows that it is hard to get in K1 with limited place available. However, you still go ahead because you want ALL schools to accept you kids so you can choose. Once, the school rejected your child, you feel offended and started to say "bad things" about the school.
Remember, you have to go through this interview game again for Primary school and the same thing will happen......
