lovenluck,

Thank you for your information.

As we are very green about the current S1 allocation system, it will be very nice if you could share with us some good tips based on your actual experience if time permits.

One thing I want to know is roughly how many % of TSL pupils can get the seats in either DSS secondary schools or “famous” schools based on good performance at interviews so those pupils already know the results or will be given “some hints” before the official announcement date in July?

Going by the allocation results we can see on the school website, I suspect such % is not low in view of the very wide geographical coverage of the schools on the list.
Does it mean that many TSL pupils already got the seats before July and only about 50% or so will join the “luck draw”?

Thanks in advance.

And in some cases those parents who are teachers of secondary schools may have "insider" info .....
Really??

O come on, you are not really that naive to believe otherwise

And some of my friends said, when we chatted, that some pr schools tend to exhibit some favouratism towards kids whose parents are teachers of certain secondary schools (for quite obvious reasons)......
Does it mean that the parents need to declare their occupation when our children fill in the application forms for some secondary schools and may be in a priviledged position if the parents are teachers??

Its only a small world !  Will know sooner or later, whether or not there are forms to fill in.  Applies particularly  to pr sch / sec sch in same "area".

Too bad I decided NOT to become a teacher.

It’s really a pity that you chose not to be an English teacher.

I believe less pupils need to go to tutorial centres if they are your pupils!!

But on the other hand, the HK economy will become less booming because there is lesser demand/business of tutorial centres!!

Come to think of it, if I am a teacher, then even more kids will need to go to tutorial centres !!

So now I'm actually having a divisor effect instead of multiplier effect on the demand for tutotial centres, by NOT beoming a teacher !

I can't even manage my own kid !

A reminder :
Although the sec schools may hint whether the kid is accepted or not, sometimes the parents misinterpret the hint ga !!

- The consequences could be disastrous if the parents misinterpret the hints without back-up for their children!!

Frankly, I do not have much tips to tell.  But would be very much happy to share my experience.

As far as I know, the successful percentage for 1st around interview is high for top students (may be the first 20th in form).   Eg. SPCC accpeted 10 girls this year and 9 girls last year.  Bear in mind that SPCC will take only 50 outsiders each year.  That means our school has successfully obtained amost 20% of the places.

However, some of them gave up the seats of those DSS schools.  When they received the result in Apr (some of the DSS school may announce earlier the results), they aleady had the interviews with those subsidy 'famous' schools.  Those schools will give you hints eg. 'See you in the next school term', 'We will send you news about the summer class of the school, please think about them and join them' or 'Have you enrolled to DSS school?  If yes, don't take it!'......  Parents of course will consider the famous school without paying school fees.

Thanks for your information on those hints.

I will put these in my notebook and hope I can hear something like that one day!!

Thanks again.

lovenluck,

No worries!!

I know it should be SPCS (instead of SPCC) as another ex-TSL parent also shared this information with us few days ago.

I think those hints need to be very obvious (the few examples you quoted to us are very good ones) to parents to ensure that both parties can get the messages correctly.

As pointed out by Bluestar earlier today, if some parents misinterpret such hints without any back-up, it will be big problem for their children.

Under the current system, the schools need to send out such hints very obviously in order not to lose any good pupils.
Ultimately, it will be conducive to both parties.

Principal,

I agreed with you.  That's why most of the students will take the offer from DSS school especially for those top students.  We have the cases that after the central allocation result announced, those students accepted by DSS school will go and 'knock door' to the famous subsidy/government schools.

BTW, we have also many successful cases for 'knock door' in the past.  TSL is a popular school for most of the students have very good performance in their interviews.  School will train them up when in P.5 for presentation skills (all-round training until P.6).  So, you don't need to worry about your kids and no need to attend the outside traning classes.

Thanks!

- We could see those successful cases being updated on the school website last week.
And we hope there will be some more successful cases to be announced shortly.

- I also heard that the school will provide presentation skills training to our pupils from P5 onwards.

Personally, I do not have much luck in most of the lucky draw so I’d rather apply those schools that will suit my child earlier instead of joining the lucky draw in July.
And that's why I would like to assess how good the chance will be.

Thanks for sharing so much valuable information with us today.

I wish your child a very happy secondary school life, as a continuation of the happy primary school life at TSL.

Being a person with a sense of humour, I don't think blue is an appropriate colour for you.

At most, I would say you are blue-blooded!!

Total number of graduates this year is 165.
If you satisfied those schools on the list of SSPA result this year, which covered 148/165=89.7% among all students. And actually the list of July 10 is not the most updated one, it should be some minor improvement but not update it thu.

A very satisfied result indeed.

bkman,

Thanks a lot for sharing the most updated information with us.

We believe there might still be some more successful cases of “knock-door” and look forward to seeing another new update on the school website soon.

Please come back to TSL threads whenever you have spare time to share some more information with the current TSL parents as we always need some good advice from ex-TSL parents.

Meanwhile, I wish your child a very happy secondary school life.
