They are very "normal" families indeed - having difficulties in paying the $5xxx tuition fee by sacrificing some extra-curicular activities. I bet there might be some who are trying to eat less for the sake of paying the school fees as well.

Not true. ESF is smart enough to preset minimum requirements for the applicants: setting the par of tuition fee at over $5,000 per month and made it an unofficial requirement that the kids have to be good English speakers.
And you consider that 有教無類? Maybe those who can't afford the $5k tuition fee and/or with lesser English skills should not even be classified.

In the web site, there is official requirement on English and depends on age. HK Government only susidize for a portion and they need to response for P&L. 5-8K per month is the cheapest international school in HK

Besides, ESF offer financial aid to students who have financial difficulties.
