Last year, there were around 10+ to 20 students need to repeat Yr 5 because of their assessment results were not up to standard. This results in less one class in Yr 6 ( only 4 classes this year). And some students didn't want to repeat and had left the school.

I would concur what the school did. If students are not upto standard, they still have a change to study in CKY, instead of kicking them out likes other schools.
It also reflects that the school has their academic requirements. But the point is whether the students and parents are well aware of the standard.
For the English reading scheme, my son got 1 story book together with a plastic folder. We know all books which we will go through on coming weeks and also a simple 'book report".
