好擔心...醫生話BB發展遲緩~~

My girl was diagnosed by a private paediatrician as autistic features at 2.5 though another professor of child pyschology said no.  After training and she has grown up a bit, she was diagnosed again at 3.5 years old at Ha Kwai Chung assessment centre and the doctor said that she was speech delay and anxiety in social skills interaction.  Although she sometimes is weak in discipline in class, she keeps on improvement in all areas which encourage me in return.  

We really can do something to our kids indeed if you think you can and don't give up!

My son will attend his first assessment in YauMaTei Children Psychology Centre in September.  I've started to worry if my son will not cooperate during the assessment again.  During the 1 hour assessment at Mongkok Child Assessment Clinics in April,  he didn't follow the instruction to draw a circle but numbers instead.  He also didin't answer some of the questions which he could answer at home.  He showed no patence to finish some of the tasks.   The doctor told me verbally that my son was autistic.  However, she has written A-feature with 1-1.5 year speech delay on the assessment report finally.  

Anyone can give me advices if I can postpone the assessment for a few months.  My son now is receiving intensive training and I want to see some overall improvement before the assessment.

今日去左早期既家長迎新會, 主要講下中心的服務範圍, 設備等.....

不過初部睇黎我覺得資源比你果間小, 佢地中心105個名額, 有1.5個ST, 1個OT, 冇PT, 一個月最少3堂1個鐘訓練, 另視乎小朋友個別情況, 再加ST/PT/小組.....

Dear Mrs Cheung,

Thanks for your advice.  I'll call the assessment centre on Monday.  Besides, have you heard that children would be disqualified to apply for the immigrant visa to US or Canada once he has been labeled as autism by Government's official assessment?

Hi kawai,
Yes you can postpone the assessment but need to give a reason.  I did so when my son was 2.5 yrs. His first assessment was done at 2 and I felt that it was too close for the 2nd assessment.  I called the CAC that I will be out of town with my family for about 3 months and wanted to postpone the assessment.  Of course this was successful.

You should have already assessed by AP's clinical psychologist, haven't you?  If so, you are aware of current status of your kid.  Unless you want to compare the results between AP and the Gov't,  it seems better to have the assessment again later.
