Re: Hello, Dr.T speaking...
Hello Dr T,
My girl did the Wechsler test about two years back when she was 5 years 7 months. Results show that she's got a big discrepancy between verbal and non-verbal IQ.
Verbal IQ 139 (Info 18, Sim 19, Arith 10, Vocab 19, Compre 14)
Performance IQ 110 (Pix Comp 12, Pix Arrang 9, Blk Dsgn 13, Obj Assbly 11, Coding 13)
Now that my girl is in P2, she's gained considerable progress in Math. The teacher said she's among the best in class. And while she hated Math when she was in kindie, the subject is now her favourite!
I kind of worry that there may be a further widening up of the gap. What should I do? And what exactly would this big gap lead to?
The CP who performed the test talked vaguely about giving her training for a more balanced develpment but offered no concrete solutions. The only thing that I do is continue sending her to drawing class which she enjoys quite a lot. She's now also learning the piano too (just started for a year). What else should I do, Dr T?
Also though she's not gifted (if you take the 130 score as the only yardstick), she's good in her academic work. However, there's a lack of initiative from her -- she does not pay full attention in class (fell asleep couple of times), hates to do homework and refuses to do revision. I was advised not to push her -- just let her face the natural consequence. What do you think?
Sorry to have loaded you with questions but any advice from you is most appreciated.
Regards,
Princessmama
