Re: Giving up DBSPD for LS
didima,
Long time to "talk"! Glad to hear that your son gains confidence again in his English subject! I totally agree with you that reading is useful in improving one's language.
It's the same case as in my son. He (is now in G.5) failed in GE paper in last examination but still got a marginal pass in overall (as they combine other parts eg. dictation, oral, listening, etc.). From the first year my son got into this school, I know that the English standard is far above his level. As long as he can get a pass and gets promoted to upper form, I let him 'go' with his own pace!
Frankly, most of the boys master excellent English but usually they do not perform similarly well in Chinese. Having said that, every boy has his own strength and fortunately, I do not feel any pressure from teachers/school to urge my son for better results.
In fact, the boys learn more than what they are taught in lessons. I appreciate the most on the Project Learning exercise which is definitely a great help in my son's case.
I have a little advice for those whose boys are going to enter DBSPD, stay calm and relaxed, watch and let your boys perform freely especially in G.1. As long as he gets a pass mark, let him enjoy as much as possible the school life which will become part of their memory!
