Thank you so much for your sharing.  I'm most excited to know that you have made your final decision to choose GSIS, in which it's not an easy task.  I'm sure it's really a challenge to both you parents and your son to face the new school, with new friends, new teachers, new environment and new policies, and I'm definately sure that you both can cope with the changes without any difficulties.

May I know how long did you wait since you submitted your application form until the time that you got the interview opportunity?  Do you know if there is a very long quene for waiting list?  How many places will GSIS offer each year for each Grade?  Will they consider the school report of your son?  Really sorry for so many questions .....

I saw this discussion and it prompts me to post something that I came across.

A friend of mine's daughter is in GSIS K2 now.  She's accepted into DGJS for P1 for next school year.  She's pondering whether she should switch to DGJS.  She understands that the two schools are in very different streams (IS vs. traditional).  But DGJS is such a well known and 優秀 school it is so hard to give up.  But GSIS is also an immensely competitive and excellent school.  It's a very hard decision.

Since everyone is discussing GSIS here, would you mind to offer your opinions?  Is there a reason to switch to DGJS? and is there a reason not to?  Thank you.

Since your little boy was lowered one grade (from P2 in QBS to P1 in GSIS), do you see the difference in the level of the curriculum?  Is P1 in GSIS really equivalent to P2 in QBS?  Or P1 in GSIS is pretty much the same as P1 in QBS?

Thank you for the sharing.  You mentioned that GSIS's expectation in academic achievement for year 1 kids is about half year higher than QBS.  Do you mean expectation of P1 in GSIS is already higher than P2 of QBS?

If you don't mind, may I also know what GSIS tested your little boy for the P1 admission?

After two months' study at GSIS, I noticed that there are in fact some differences between two schools.

QBS seems to have a more systematic and structural way of building up the kids' ability in English literacy, e.g. in reading and spelling of which the system is very effective in handling kids with a wide range of abilities.

GSIS also has some kinds of systematic and structural way but it is not as detailed as QBS's and it seems that it is more suitable for capable kids while it would be a little bit difficult for less capable kids to catch up with others.

GSIS seems to be more focus on academic, i.e English and Maths while QBS has a more balanced curriculum. For example, it seems that the portion of technology, art & craft in QBS is slightly greater than GSIS.  

I attended the Parent Consultation Day on last Wednesday and had a chance to meet with the class teacher to discuss about my boy's progress as well as to see all the works of my boy done at school. From the detailed content of my boy's work done at school, I noticed that GSIS was really a little bit more demanding than QBS.  Roughly speaking, my personal judgement is that GSIS's expectation in academic achievement for year 1 kids is about half year higher than QBS.

Please note that the above are only based on my limited experience in GSIS together with my personal feeling for your reference only. It might not totally reflect the fact.
