Hi apapa,

Do you have any bad experience of applying kindergarten?  My daughter was born in Dec 04 and I would like to apply 07/08 K1 for her.  Could you share your experience with me?  Does she really have no chance?

i have not yet started the application process since my child is also a 12/04 baby.
but from the forums, i know that the chances to be accepted into a good K1 for 07/08 is very slim for small babies.
as what charlotte-mom said :"唔係話父母覺得自己小朋友叻唔叻, 而係學校一早認定細仔/細女唔夠叻, 所以除非小朋友真係特別醒(仲要interview當日表現到wor!)" otherwise it is almost impossible to get in.

but of course, if we insist in studying K1 for 07/08, we can go for the schools which are not as popular.  this is just my thought !

my child is 11/04 baby. Just want to share your view.

If unluckly your baby cannot go to popular school, will u consider letting her study in less popular K1, or go to the nursery class of popular school?

So, will your kid study N1 when he reaches 2 years old?  
For the 07/08 K1, I'll try to apply some good K1s for my daughter though the chance is slim plus some kindergartens that are not so popular.  What do you think?

I prefer to let my child study N class next year in popular school and then K1 in 2008.

Of course i will apply a few kindergartens to get some experience of interview

At this stage, i still have not make up my mind of choosing traditional or international stream..

For the deferring school year, I wonder whether my daughter will be unhappy if she finds that she was born in 2004 while other schoolmates were born in 2005.  At this moment, I tend to choose normal K1 instead of deferring her school year if she can't be accepted by popular K1s but I haven't made up my mind.

Not all famous/popular schools have N class!!  What's your school list?  I'll apply for some kindergartens in Kowloon Tong and Shatin but don't have the detailed list at this stage.

um...i think i'd rather let her study N1 in a popular school which is also 一條龍
hopefully our childs will have advantage FINALLY being a BIG baby in N1.
i have thought this over and over for the past few months and came up with a decision that i should not apply K1 in those popular schools for 07/08.... we will never be able to challenge their policies, right ?
this is my decision as of now, may be i will change my mind later....

for me, i will only apply those K1s which i really want my child to be in. (cos i figured i will not let her study in the ones which i don't prefer anyways)
also, i will apply the nursery which i prefer.  we are in a dilemma cos one hand we want to have our childs study in good K1 and on the other we don't want them to waste one more yr.

If defer 1 year at kindergarten, the chance to get in better primary school will be lower (for allocation only) as the no. of birth is increasing per year.

Don't think your child wil be unhappy as a mixture of child born in 2 consecutive years are quite common in K1 class. I have two friends from my buildings who have also decided to defer the school year for their child born in Dec04.

i think all mama with 'small' child will share your view. But i want to share with you a story of my classmate's son. Her son is born in month of January, she always complaint her son would waste one year as compared with those born in December. Her son finally admit to a famous kindergarten, during K1 - K3 her son learnt very fast and always play the role as leader...and he has been admitted by St. Paul's co-ed for P1. My classmate now kidding that if she would pregnant again, she prefer to have baby born in Jan or Feb..

For myself, i have a thinking (maybe some will consider me 'AH Q') that if my child defer one year to K1, he can enjoy one more honeymoon year of his life :tongue:

Charlotte_mom 好多謝你的回應, 有這個topic真好, 我囝囝剛讀完大半年n1(不出名的幼稚園), 今年9月會讀k1, 我同n1的校長傾過, 佢都認同大仔同細仔一齊學的野細仔會學得比較慢, 我囝囝都係咁, 有一次學校旅行, 我見到同班的"大細"同學, 真係叻好多, 無論反應同埋接收能力都好d, 我囝囝在屋裏的表現都ok, 但校長話佢係水平以下喎  :cry: 我之前都唔相信大仔細仔的分別會咁大, 但經過校長這番說話我就想囝囝讀緊k1的同時再報考另一間k1, 我心目中的選擇係 st paul co-ed 及 聖公會(鐵岡), 因為呢2間比較近同埋出名d,  但囝囝將會讀的 st paul church 有人話都ok, 真頭痛, 如果我用多左一年時間心囝囝讀多一年k1入我想入的學校, 但如果冇一條龍的話好似冇保障咁, 況且佢長大時可能小學或中學要留班時就超級大仔, 會好 的.

所有如果今年再考呢2間都收的話, 一定要交左留位費先, 然後再觀察囝囝的進度才決定...... 大家認為對嗎? 請指教

heard you have mentioned before applying 寶山, can u tell me what's good abt this school?  the only comment i have ever heard of so far is that it's the most expensive nursery in town.  other than that........

agreed with what charlotte-mum said on BH(寶山).

my friends' 2 kids study in BH. She said K1 is easy but K2 and K3 are quite tough, that's why the school master prefer 'Big' child. They have small class (less than 15) and good teachers, but very very and very expensive. :tongue:
