IB has a long history (IBDP started in the 60's). It is certainly not a seasonal candy. Many top universities in the US offer advance placement recognition to IB diploma graduates and allow them to finish their under-graduate programmes in three years (that's why independents schools in the US are so hot these days). Many schools are changing to IBDP because the GCSE A level is losing ground. Take a look at the statistics - 61.2% of the students got A*-C last year, and 18.4% got A*/A. It is a fact that some universities are not taking GCSE A level seriously. A student with 3 or 4 As in GCSE A level is nothing in the eyes of the top universities. An IBDP graduate with 5 or more 7s in IBDP is, on the other hand, is sweet candy.
And, by the way, IBO is not for profit making.
