I've attended an IBO seminar. those people from IBO gave me the feeling that they are just another organization repackaging all the elements in learning and push it to the market and suddenly become everybody's eye candy....they are just earning money...

Dear AaronMummy,

IB has a long history (IBDP started in the 60's).  It is certainly not a seasonal candy.  Many top universities in the US offer advance placement recognition to IB diploma graduates and allow them to finish their under-graduate programmes in three years (that's why independents schools in the US are so hot these days).  Many schools are changing to IBDP because the GCSE A level is losing ground.   Take a look at the statistics - 61.2% of the students got A*-C last year, and 18.4% got A*/A.  It is a fact that some universities are not taking GCSE A level seriously.  A student with 3 or 4 As in GCSE A level is nothing in the eyes of the top universities.  An IBDP graduate with 5 or more 7s in IBDP is, on the other hand, is sweet candy.

And, by the way, IBO is not for profit making.

亦唔係GCE A LEVEL係無ＴＯＰＵＮＩＶＥＲＳＩＴＩＥＳ睇窩。
請問　ＯＸＢＲＩＤＧＥ　係未ＴＯＰＵＮＩＶＥＲＳＩＴＩＥＳ　呢　？

Dear Msma,

I might have gone a bit too far in saying that a student with 3 or 4 As in GSCE A level is nothing in the eyes of the best universities.  Chance is, yet, that such a student will be required to take a separate entrance exam if he applies to Oxbridge.

What IBO seminar have you attended give you such feelings?  Is it from a school or from IB organization?  Just curious to know.

It is true that GCE results are no longer a good reference of standard as getting As is too easy using the current method.  Now using IBD results can allow students to skip TOEFL or SAT?? as well(not too sure) when applying U.

Not sure about TOEFL, but SAT is still compulsory.
