Anyone with same situation with me-rejected by Raimondi Pls share

How about the English standard of Raimondi?  Lower or higher than other famous primary schools i.e. DBS, St. Joe etc.

I don't think age is a problem as my son is 細仔 (born in Dec) and he has accepted by Raimondi.

We don't have any special background.  I think it really depends on the performance of the interview + a little bit of Luck.

I don't know the English standard of the school you mentioned. As I know the Raimondi Boys are recommended to read a lot of English books. Most of them read Daily 10, Adventure Box, Discovery Box etc in regularly basis. And many other story books as well...As compare it with my son's school.

Actually, I am now encouraging my son to read the above books or articles. But he found it is hard for him to read. In fact, my son reads English books by his own. The difference is, my son tends to read books with big picture but less words!

Do you mean your son has succeeded in appling for Raimondi in his P5?

Raimondi has offered P1 place for my younger son.  But my elder son is studying in another school.  I'm thinking about applying place for my elder son, who is now in P3.  Or, vice versa, my younger son to stay with his brother (as I know both of them will be very happy and I could be at ease for the time being).

I'm wondering whether it's good to make a move for my elder son, which will trigger for problems of adaptation and drop in performance.  As you've mentioned, he has been studying very happily, so am I.  Nevertheless, I am anxious with the secondary placement.  What's your recommendation?  Tks.

Thanks for reading my message. My son is not studying in Raimondi, friends of mine's sons are. In fact, we applied for a place two years ago but not success. Since I meet those Raimondi boys and their parents often so I have a very good impression of the school and that's why we applied.

My son's situation is: studing in a activity based school very happily, (but with low level in academic), with very high self esteem somehow make me feel hard to correct him ( I was happy with it when he is in P1, 2, I thought that is a good sign for confidence, but it is another story now or even in the future!)

I was a happy learning concept parent at the beginning, but after these 4-5 years observation on my son and his friends, plus the perception I made through seeing how well could it be under a tradition teaching, I started to worry if my son could really survive in secondary school without difficulties. He might love to learn but somehow secondary education needs more than interests in learning. It requires you to be well equipped with some basic skill such as word power, maths skill, endurance for preparing tests and exams, ability to handle more subjects.....

When I am trying to let my son to read the Raimondi boys' books or articles I see the problems. ( My son feels hard to read ) That really pushes me to think how would he do when he goes to a secondary school in 2 years time?

Being over self esteem is another probelm. When I asked my son to write more neatly he said my teachers don't mind why do you mind? I told him that his boss in future would mind that too. I said who cares, I am the BOSS of MINE! It alerts me! Since I met people at the office with similar attitude everyday. They refuse to correct their mistakes and found it hard to admit they have done things wrong. I don't want my son to be one of them in the future!

I can really share the same dilemma.

I used to believe that a “happy-learning” environment could bring out the best of my kids.  They will have the drive to learn and strive for excellence, which is much more important for their life-long development.

However, given the current educational system, the academic result in primary schooling for bridging over to the secondary education is also very important.  While I am comparing the curriculum of my son's school, I am confused - Am I on the right track?  Shall I be in confident?  How shall I compare? (Or, in fact, shall I compare?) How long shall I wait to verify my choice.

I agree that 玉不琢, 不成器, nothing will be there without paying efforts.  I am trying to find the best "suitable" mode for my sons. While I am given with an alternative for my younger son, I keep thinking of whether I shall try?  Is it better?

My son is a P.4 student in Raimond. Frankly speaking, at academic side, Raimond Primary is a real good school though can't say top school. I have a colleague who's son studies in Lasa, also in P.4. We sometime exchange school test papers. I was surprised that Lasa's school papers were not that difficult, even easier than Raimond. Also, they don't have Eng Maths for primary session. I have to spend a lot of time studing with my son also do a lot of school projects/activities.... coz the school is quite demanding. My son is happy with this school. I was very impressed for his teachers in P.1-2 too.  However, I'm not that satified his teachers in P.3 & this year - stubborn. Esp this year, the teacher of Chi subject is quite emotional, always punish the pupils (that's my son told me). Anyway, the most important is they can offer high level education to my son. I believe that Raimond Primary still have good reputation among those famous school.

However, I know that the academic result of Raimond Secondary is not as good as before (although still in Band 1 & Eng Secondary School). As such, I may not let my son to enter their secondary school though my son can easy to get in (around 50-60% P.6 students can get in secondary school. ie if the boy keeps his place before 100 out of 200 (students), he can get in the secondary school. Luckily, my son keeps No.3-6 in his class in these years). Since my son just in P.4 this year, I don't know if his result will become better or worse than before.  If he could get excellent school report at P.6, I'll try to knock the door of St. Paul Co-ed or St. Paul Boys & give up the chance to Raimond Secondary.  That is, Raimond Secondary in my eyes is just a back up.
