Dear Pulsar & Wendy,

My girl didn't participate in the speech festival.  I only enrol the music festival for her.  
My girl also don't have time to practice piano co'z she already fully occupied by doing homework, revision, practice dictation, do her Kumon Chinese and Maths, rest and play.....then nearly 10:00pm already (including the time I checked her homework and do revision for her).  Is it so harsh for our girls?  i always ask this question.  Even for me, I think it's quite tired co'z I contribute all my time after work everyday to her.

I even don't recognise there is such a competition.  Are your daughter going to participate in this event?  How to join this competition?

Do you know how the school run the Chin. & Eng. reading in class?  Is that each student will read their books by themselves.

Regarding the "Activity Record Sheet" & "Service Award Scheme", do you know what should we do in order to get an endorsement?

How can your girl do so much things per day!  My girl can only finish her homework, revise dictation and do Chinese 每日一篇.  It's already 9:30.  Would you mind telling me how you arrange the time for your girl.  I hope my girl can do some extra exercise every night.

Do your girls find any difficulty in this week's Chin. dictation?  Usually I start to revise dictation on the very first day I find it on handbook but this time my girl always forget a few words each time when dictate at home, thus it use my whole weeks time to revise the same thing.  I really can't squeeze out any time for her to do extra exercise, of course not even playing piano.

Hi Wendy,

Let me clarify a bit.  My girl can finish homework, revision, do Chinese 每日一篇 everyday.  Practice dictation, do Kumon Chinese and Maths are not everyday, only alternate days or more.  No time for practising piano already.  I also have no time to let her do extra exercise and worrying that how to revise for her in the coming test in Nov.  I think I will spend the coming weekends to let her do extra exercise.

My girl also said that she feels dictation is difficult.  Especially this time is two chapters.  I usually ask her to practice, not dictate, at the time after she finished homework but before I come back home.  After I come back home, I will ask her to dictate.

How do you find Chinese Kumon?  Is it practical?  My son tried Maths Kumon and dropped when he finished +-x/.  Now I let my girl do Selin (學林).  I know that Kumon has homework everyday, even Sat . & Sun., how can you do only when you have time?  My girl's (Kg) classmate is now learning English Kumon, her mother said it is very useful.  Have you try before?

Do you find there is a lot of extra words in Word Bank?  Do you ask your girl to spell all?  There are 13 extra words under Unit 4 (I get the list from next class).  I'm worrying how to ask her to memorise all the spelling.

Every year, the class teachers (Chin, Eng & music teachers) will choose some girls from the class to participate in the Speech festival and Music festival. FOr the speech festival, they will have an assessement (ie to test the skills of the girls) before giving them the forms. But for music festival, sometimes they will ask your grade in the ABRSM exam, or some music teachers will just give you the form to fill in by the parents.

The activity record and service award sheet are the forms when you've participated in any kind of activities / competitions (internal or external), you may get some points. That means, if you participate in the speech and music festival, if you are the winner you can get 8 pts, 1st runner up 6 pts, 2nd runner up 4 pts, only participating in the competition, you can still get 2 pts , the same in the service award scheme. After the activity / competition, you can provide some proofs / record sheets or medals and ask your girl to go to the office. The office staff will record them in your activity record sheet with points added in it.
Even the school will organise many internal competitions (like maths game, spelling quiz, interclass music contest....etc), if the class of your girl won, she can also go to the office to add pts in her record sheet.
After cumulating certain number of pts during her 6 years primary study (eg. 60 pts - bronze medal... but I've  forgotten the details), she will be presented a medal (gold, silver or bronze) from the principal in the year end (July) prize giving ceremony.

Dear all parents, don't worry.  SPCS is a wonderful school. My daughter is in P3 now and both of us feel time flies. In these 3 years, my daughter is very happy, enegetic and worked without any pressure.

Hi Parents of SPC,
Do you think the English standard is ok since there is no native speakers for English? Of course some chinese teachers can teach English very well too. Can you share with us what sort of English Readers or books that your kids are using?
The other day I saw a SPC student who looks like P.4-P.5, she is already reading quite a thick English friction in very small words. I don't know if it is an exception or normal for SPC students.

Don't worry, it's OK!
The principal now (Sr. J) is such a nice lady and she never pushes the students to join any competitions or to get any remarkable results in the activity. At least, your daughter can handle the school work properly with good conduct (this is what they are more emphasize on), there isn't a problem to promote to the upper grade.

I let my kid to participate in Kumon Chinese just because it is taught in Mandarin.  I want to find some Mandarin class for her and Kumon Chinese is quite good for learning Mandarin.

For the word bank, I aksed my girl to practice every night this week in order to make sure that she can memorise.  Co'z I saw that she wrote "revise word bank" in her handbook last week.  I thought that the teacher might expect us to practice for our girl!

School test may come next month.  How will you prepare for you girl?

Would you please tell me more details in Chinese Kumon?  For example how they teach in class,  how much and what kind of homework will be given to student.  My girl is learning Mandarin in Kornhill, but she don't like the teacher and always refuse to go, so I'm looking for some other possibilities.

For school test, I will revise all the papers given by school, revise spelling and writing (Chin.) and I 've bought some outside test paper for her to do.  I just want her to understand what is "test".   Any senior SPC student parent can give some advice?

Hi Kimimi,

My girl is in P.4 now, so she takes more academic classes this year.  My girl has takes Putonghua, English (Grammer & Writing), piano, 強化中文, drawing & chinese Dance from Mon to Sat.  Although my girl has a very tight schedule everyday, she still can managed.

Actually, for most of the girl have no language problem to go to primary section.  The girls can adpoted the new environment quickly.  Don't worry.

SPC is a happy school for the girls.  My girl love this school so much.

Hi Wendy,

The test is very similiar to the outside test paper.  As I remember in the 1st term, the teacher will speak out the headings of each question to the girls.  If possible you may try to get some past paper from last year then you may have a more clear picture how the test is look like.

Sr. will announce in the assembly or maybe your class mistress will tell the class again. Then yr girl can go to the office to get the relevant form for you to fill in...
Always ask yr girl to listen to the assembly announcements or sometimes go to the office to check whether there is any forms for them to take. If you are P1, ask her to take everything home, then you can decide for her whether to join or not.
