Dear mamalily,
I think I will let my daughter to study in primary section. But I will apply the "lucky draw" also.
Could you please advise the "demanding"? Do you mean in academy? discipline? performance? $$$?
Best Regards,

Dear ChingChing Father,
Hi! Since I've graduated from the school for more than ten years, perhaps, I am a bit "out-of-date". When I talked about "demanding", I meant "academically". The school stressed the English level of the students. For Form 1 non-SPS students, they're required to take English lessons in small groups and had to take lots of remedial classes and do much homework in order to meet their standard. As for other subjects except Chinese Language and Chinese History, all teachers used all English when teaching the classes and would not change the language even if the whole class did not understand. I remember some of my form 1 and 2 classmates, around 5 to 6, were kicked out from the school because of their poor English, even if they did quite well in other subjects.
I personally think that the school more preferred outgoing and outspoken students. They encouraged, but not pushed, to join activties like debates and drama.
It was a bit difficult for me as I studied at Precious Blood which was a Chinese school. Of course, if your daughter's English is quite good and gets accustomed to "all-English" teaching, it'll be okay.
As for "discipline", St. Paul's is definitely not a "strict" one, the sisters and teachers there gave students much freedom and would give them allowance if the students did not go too far.
And "$$", the school seldom demanded donations from the parents and they did not require students to attend much extra-curricular activities, so not much money to be spent!
Although the campus of St. Paul's is not "too large", the facilities are quite good. We had our own swimming pool and the garden with lots of beautiful flowers and plants, white benches and swings...
I think most of the other "famous" schools are probably the same.
Best regards,
Lily |
