Re: 學障問題想請教專家
Dear mrsphcheung:
The centre is called Davis Dyslexia Correction Center.
The address is:
1601 Bayshore Highway Suite 260, Burlingame CA 94010
Phone number: 1-800-729-8990
Go to google map, type in the address of SF airport and the address of the centre, then they will show you the route to the centre directly.
I went to the center about a week ago. People there were generally very nice, and they gave me a long talk regarding how they help dyslexic kids.
Before you actually go to San Fran, they'd suggest you to read their book first. (It's called "The Gift of Dyslexia: Why some of the smartest people can't read"). Reading the book is strongly suggested because the program is NOT for everybody. The child needs to be able to visualize objects in his head in order to go through the correction program. You may also want to look at their website (www.dyslexia.com) for their specific programs. Someone found the book in HK as well.
Is the child fluent in English? If not, they suggest you to bring along an instant translator as well because nobody speaks Chinese there. The child and the facilitator will have lots of conversations.
The people there are very honest---they told me that they have never treated any Chinese speaking client before. However, they had some Koreans and Japanese clients before. There was also a boy from Iran whose grandmother is an American. The grandmother acted as a translator throughout the whole program (which lengthened it, of course).
Please feel free to post another message if you have any further questions!
