What they do is they will give your child a brief assessment and assign you an instrument.  Surely there are some instruments are more popular among parents and some are not familiar at all.  For those who got those not familiar or not the ideal one, the parents usually would ask for a change.  If everyone would learn the same or the most popular one, who would like to try the rest of instrument of the orchestra?  But they do accept change of instrument.  My girl got violin last year and I decided to switch her to other instrument!

謝謝回應 !  有關樂器呢個問題, 我特别再問我friend.  His son study P2 this year in APS.   This was what his son told him.  

Teacher point to several students & allocate them to take this instruments, others to others etc...  His son was finally the last group allocated to 大提琴 which his son didn't like but dare not to say anything.

May be you all are right, the parents & students may have the chance to switch to some other instruments that they do like.  Just my friend & his son did not say No until now....
