"96%" was what I heard from the principal of ESF TY kindergarten 3 years ago.

No I can't say if that percentage applies to all ESF kindergartens in general, I suspect it varies from school to school and year to year, thats why I said "90's" instead of "96".

I think beginning with next year the percentage may start to decrease, for 2 reasons:-

(1) They are opening a new kindergarten in Tung Chung, so there will be more ESF kindergarten pupils competing for an unchanged number of seats in ESF primary schools.

(2) From next year onwards, ESF Y1 entrants will no longer enjoy government subsidy so the school fee will rise to approach what other international schools are charging, therefore those ESF kindergarten pupils with Y1 offers from multiple schools may have less incentive to opt for ESF Y1.

The above are of course just my interpretations :)

I got the whole picture now.  Thanks for your detailed explanation!  90's is a very attractive number for the current kinder students who are hoping to move on to ESF primary.  For your reason (1), ESF Tung Chung is not in function yet right?  So I guess it won't affect the ESF primary intake next year, no?

Nomination Right is just that, i.e. a right.

You pay an initial deposit of HK$50k to buy a "right" to nominate a child to attend an admission interview, the moment the child goes for the interview, the right is exercised and you'll only get your $50k back if the child fails the interview. If the child succeeds and you decline the school's offer, you'll lose the deposit. If you accept their offer you'll have to pay the remaining amount right away, and you'll lose all of it if the child ends up not going to the school. It is not a debenture that you could sell or redeem or transfer.

But the web site shows the nomination right is 500000. 50k is only deposit. I wonder 500000 isn't refundable ? Or count as sch fee? Or just like debenture?

----(1) If the child fails the interview you'll get your $50k back, end of story.

----(2) If the child passes the interview, then ...

--------(2a) If you decline the school's offer, you'll lose the $50k deposit, end of story.

--------(2b) If you accept the school's offer, you'll have to pay the remaining $450k right away, then ...

------------(2b1) Child starts classes in August as planned, your $500k is well spent.

------------(2b2) Child has a better offer and goes to the other school, your $500k is wasted.


Basically, at point (2) you say ta-ta to $50k because you won't get it back whatever happens, and at point (2b) you kiss $500k goodbye.

Clear enough? :)

The cost is so much that I prefer to enter it from the ESF kindy!

It may not be that bad, if you have paid $500k for a place, you won't give it up unless something much better comes along so it should be a happy loss :)
