個人經驗可以分享下, 女兒現在小一, 從未在外面學過phonics, 兩歲時曾經睇過YBCR幾個月同用過佢地既字卡教女兒讀生字, 一直以來有每晚講故事, 有些英文書中有rhyme pair, 我會跟女兒多讀幾次, 到K3時一般的讀音如box, fox, dog, log, tin, bin, far, star.....都沒有問題, K3開始有教佢自己拆compound word, 到而家唔覺得佢冇正式學phonics 有好大問題, 反而佢曾經問我點解computer, 讀"飄"唔係讀"put", 就明白phonics 的拼音方法佢地會自己慢慢掌握~

所以家長要有智慧判斷那些是多餘，那些有害，那些有益。

phonics 是好简單但有用的東西，如何學，學幾耐，因人而已。

一定可以的，她只是暫時未“類化”得到，一讀通了，以前所學的會全用返出來，你個一“皮“唔會白花的。停下先都好。

Hi Ackl1002!  I had the same dilemma a while back, and gave up phonics with no regrets.  None!Phonics is best suited for native english speaking kids.  It is a tool to help kids connect between what they already understand/speak and how the words are spelt in text.  It isn't much use at a time when kids can't associate the sounds with many different words that mean something to them.  I think its more important to focus on listening skills, building up vocab, and speaking in proper sentences.  Reading lots of ORT is also very important.  Overtime, point out the sounds to her as you read, and you'll be surprised how much she knows!

Hi Creamsicle, thanks for the useful info! My girl has not been contacting English conversation too much until she is in love with Peppa Pig lately. I hope she will put the phonics knowledge into use soon.

I often suggest to others to start phonics in k2 and spend time on those u mentioned b4...

Thanks for the clarification, in case other parents are reading this.  Both Ackl 's girl and my girl have tried phonics classess.  The benefits were not apparent so I think it's ok to quit.

I would recommend starting in K2 also ... for parents who prefer proper classes to teach their kids phonics.  Try it and see how it goes.   If there is no other channel to learn it, its better to learn slowly than not learn it at all.

phonic不是學英文的捷徑，當然不能說完全沒有幫助
每天看15分鐘英文，效果都會比學15分鐘grammar的效果大。
當然，教phonic的人會跟你說很多好處。

這樣說吧，外國的小朋友也不太會學phonic，英文說得不也一樣好。所以，關鍵在於接觸，浸多d，而不是學phonic

Agree that phonics is no miracle.Don't agree that "外國的小朋友也不太會學phonic"  My kid's kindergarten starts reciting simple poems with rhymes in pre-nursury, starts reading "cat sat on a mat" etc in K1, and judging by the work pinned on classroom walls, the K3 kids write some amazing poems.  I don't think they could have rhymed so perfectly well had they not learnt phonics.  Its a private school so the standard is slightly more advance, but the same set of books is also used by the local public school board.

在香港，不易找到一種像拼音一樣，容易學，有很大作用的學習工具。

係呀，一個月一千蚊，你話駛吾駛咁貴嘞。我女間幼稚園都有教phonics, 教得好淺，但她也一樣吾識，近排好左啲，可能大個啲啦。出面學嘅就好深，可能要谷啲細路考小學啩，我女都係差啲，要慢慢來。試過一對一上門學，成400一粒鐘添呀，一樣係無用。

Maybe those kids overseas dont go to phonics classes specifically, they learned their phonics from everyday life. We dont have such language environment here.
