I put in my son's application this year and I welcome all other parents who might have missed the exceptionally early closing date this year to submit their application.
This is a test of who is the most suitable candidate, not who is lucky enough to know this year's unusual early closing date.
As I see it, the rule has not been changed. Ying Wa wants the most suitable candidates. It surely is irrelevant about the rule that it has to be seen to be "fair" in the sense that an extension of closing date may be unfair to those who are "less suitable" suddenly become "suitable" because some "more suitable" candidates have missed this year's unusual closing date?
I know this is a zero sum game. But what good is it to my son if he were accepted because other more suitable candidates were excluded due to a change in closing date?
I rather let my son go to the most suitable school in an open competitive way.
This will be the test of his strength, his character and his ability.
Perhaps I may say something about the unusual closing date. Many leading schools invite applications around September. Some push forward to August and July (Don't they go on vacation?). Some to June and May. Ying Wa pushed it to April this year. I think this is the first time and is the earliest (or one of the earliest) closing date.
Why?
The school must has its own administrative reasons but the unepected result is that some parents were caught off-guarded.
Many of the parents obviously are disappointed. Why should their over-sight be penalized? Is the penalty disporportionate to the so-called crime, which is nothing but an understandable over-sight?
I have feelings for those parents who might have missed the previous deadline. I hope their son should not be penalized unnecessarily. I think to allow them to submit an appllcation is a humane way to handle this year's unusually early closing date.
I support Ying Wa's decision. I believe it is a passionate and humane decision without pretending to be a quasi-judiciary machine trying to follow a rule blindly.

You are right, maybe their expected suitable candidates are the "parents" who will totally agree and support no matter what they done.

They make themselves more far away from the category of "Banded School" because of this event.

同事仔仔係gifted child，我之前提過佢英華報名係13号deadline, 佢表示無興趣，因心儀另一間。今日同佢提起英華再接受報名，佢就打算報吓，玩吓

見到YW咁做，真係忍吾住講：「咁都得?」咁樣對我地趕做portfolio既人真係吾多公平囉!YW為左對果小部份既人有人情味，而撹到好多之前交表既人對學校失望、扣分，咁樣做都值得嗎?學校今次有冇選擇錯誤?

Why should their over-sight be penalized?   咁考生如果因為第一次interview太緊張而影響表現，係唔係又可以理解呢?  學校係唔係應該學樓上有位家長話齋，不如加多個復活戰，俾多次機會Round 1因一時失手的小朋友呀?  可能佢地其中都有好多都係suitable candidate 喎!!!

其實佢地今次目的係要話俾大家聽 "機會是留給準備好的人" 是錯的!
機會留給誰是由俾機會的人決定, 跟有冇準備無關

正如loveDD所講，同意有唔公平o既情況…但係要記住一時失手o既係家長唔係小朋友…學校要既係適合o既小朋友，學校再俾機會佢o地係情有可原…如果失手o既係自己(家長)，大家會唔會想自己o既小朋友(投考者)有機會去爭取呢?要記住小朋友唔識自己報考小學…

(面試失手係反映小朋友o既能力，報名遲o左係家長準備不足(同意)，不可與小朋友o既能力混為一談)

其實學校無貫徹佢o地o既行政，冒住被非議o既險，都係為o左小朋友為o左學校的將來﹗

不公平-很多家長說早交Portfolio(或準備不足)對他們不公平,但學校不是一早說明資料可以補交嗎? 這樣早交也不會不公平. 沒有人知道會有第2次申請的.

正確的做法?我相信學校絕不想有第2次申請,但由於希望申請人可在10周年開放日對學校瞭解多些,才將申請提前至4月初, 這是一個十分特別的安排, 但學校的苦心可以理解, 亦應該贊賞(這樣做工作量肯定倍爭).  亦由於提早了這麼多, 有家長錯過了(也應該不少)也情有可原. 我認為學校的做法十分正確.

我也是今年報考的家長, 自私地我完全明白不希望有第二次申請的原因.

對於學校好心做了[壞]事, 這是一個很好的機會讓家長暸解學校的處事方式.  對於事事以自身利益出發, 滿有陰謀論, 不會以學校為重的人,  最好是不要選擇英華了.

其實都無謂再作咩爭論，道理可以幾冠冕堂皇都得，家長犯錯，可以原諒，咁家長同學校無關係，又是否可以原諒?  點解要分A/B/C/D/E forms。  不過學ha8mo所講，真心喜歡學校的話，接受又好，唔接受都好，相信大家會繼續努力幫小朋友爭取一席之地，否則如果是真的那麼不滿，干脆同學校講取消申請算了!

始終係原則問題！如果係硬要再收多一round表，係咪應該起碼安排哂响deadline前交表嘅家庭嘅面試日期，响今日公佈，而之後交表d家庭就再作安排？咁樣對响deadline前交表嘅家庭會有個交代同尊重!  復校十年就一早知係今年啦，點解明知自己提早deadline可能會出現問題而唔一早唸定方案？而要3000個家庭“硬食”？唔明！

雖然準時交表的家長有得去開放日，但我都贊成學校應在收第二批表的同時不影響已交表的家長。希望校方可以考慮。

那我又不會這麼想. 同理心下，如果我是其中一個 miss 了deadline 的, 也會很欣喜有這一次額外的機會。那些犯了錯有改過自新的機會，唔通其他沒有犯錯的人會覺得唔公平嗎. 不過我也很明白，利益當前，很難會放得下。

當日咁多人想去簡介會都去唔到又再加場, Open Day叫佢俾多張飛等一家4口可以一齊去都話唔得.
可見佢地真係好Considerate
