G1 should be able to handle a short essay writing no matter what kind of kindergarten they are from. Coz, the requirement of the essay is to reflect what student had learn in class. Teachers are not piggy on spelling or grammatical usage but if the key for the writing is to show the 6Ws (What, When, Where, Which, Why and Who); then assessment will be graded if students are well use of the knowledge.
Also, during class, teachers already guided them how to build sentence by using what's been taught.
As of course, the more reading childen did, it helps. Doesn't matter if the book are long or short but complex in writing and have rooms for children to use their imaginations.
Not really, only 2 teachers left from last year and of course some changes happened after Ms Din (Principal, Primary school) and Mrs Hsu (Vice principal) left.
I think it really doesn't matter a lot which kindergarten the child is from. Of course your child may have some advantages at the term beginning if he/she is already doing well on written English, but children will pick that up fast if they have strong interest. Besides, WKF also breaks up children into smaller groups according to their strength and weakness, so similar children would learn together at pace that should fit most, if not all, of the children in that group. Although they have such arrangement, they are not labeling the children, as the group names have nothing suggesting what the children's ability is.
My daughter is also studying G2. In the assessment, she can write down what she want to say through the phonics. Maybe some words wrong. But she really try her best to present her ideas to the teacher. Chinese and English have many writing practices. So I think her writing skill will be better in coming future.
