Sorry I don't have the pictures as they are quite blurred and some of them are only descriptions. Some are from my own hand written notes and some from photocopies. About swimming, I am not sure which one is better. My son joins the swimming team and the training is mainly free style and breast stroke, with some back stroke and butterfly stroke. My coach says butterfly stroke is good for back pain. I personally think that freestyle is good enough.
My son's classmate goes to the physiotherapists of Polytechnics University. I guess it is inside their campus. You may search yahoo/googles by typing "Polytechnics physiotherapists".
I think the treatment must be the earlier the better. I think why brace does not work on some people because their spines are too much inclined. Just imagine a tree. When it is small but inclined, you just need to give it some support or correct the position a bit and it can grow straight again. If you wait the tree to go further inclined, even you give it the support, the stem still can't grow straight any more.
Don't trust the doctors. Treatments like physio are not within their areas and so they only says wait because they only know brace and surgery. Exercises (physiotherapy) and good gestures do work on my son and his classmate. (His classmate even put on brace and his spine is reduced from 18 degrees to less than 5 degrees as reported from his mum a few days ago. He does not need to put on brace that often now.) Because of the limited resources of the govt, I have heard that they only allow patients to put on brace when it is >30 degrees, but in the past it was >20. I personally think that >30 is too late.
Although the doctors may tell you that there are unknown causes, just because they can't prove, I can say for sure that "good gesture" can help a lot.
