in my case, i did not send my daughter to any learning center yet.

at home, my daughter can communicate with grandma in PTH, and helper in english.

i let her go to big playground whenever i have time.  so she can make friends with kids from different nationalities.  you will find it's easier for kids to pick up language when they play.

Hi Sum107,

  Let me say something fair as a non-SPK parent.  The luxury cars queue was a phenomenon for St. Paul's Convent long long time ago!  It shouldn't have such case now anymore (as Sisters have requested the parents not to do so, my niece studies in SPCS).  But we all know as we live in Hong Kong, some rumours can pass on through generation and people never get the updated information only.  So don't be bothered with that.

  On the other hand, I don't think there are any miscellaneous fees with SPK, it is possible that amount is close to the SPN tuition fees (around 65,000 per year now).

haha jean2003, the queue was on Leighton Road and followed by Tung Lo Wan Road (just around the corner), right outside the entrance.

If you took No. 10 bus to your old school then it pass by Leighton road, but probably not the same school time.

ST Paul學生分佈全港， 小朋友有住在新界、九龍及香港。 小朋友返學有坐校車, 巴士, 地鐵，亦有住得遠家長揸車送返學, 通常塞車因為大家都是最後十分鐘到, 大家都想將車停正大門, 所以才會有車龍. 差不多每朝都有交通警維持秩序, 每架車停下少於兩分鐘, 大家趕返學, 我想無人會得閒停下研究架車牌子及型號. 小朋友一到學校門口已急不及待趕入去同自己朋友玩。

嘩!好多人講到St Paul 門口好多名車接送咁壯觀!講真我都係放學時見過Benz, BMW....泊在門口,仲唔止一兩架, 係好多架,但係.....'多'代表係幾多? 名車接送嘅絕大部分係幼稚園和小學, 两間加起近1,500個學生, 每天有150架名車接送都係10%, 你話多唔多? 我就話搭校車嘅多好多, 睇睇棉登徑沿沿不絕St Paul 學生排隊上校車咪仲壯觀!

I guess we shouldn't get carried away by this long car queue anymore.

The reason why Sum107 mentioned it is only because she worries if there are a large population of rich people studying in SPK and that would create pressures to her child, if lucky to be accepted.  So, whether or not there is a car queue and what kind of cars those are is not the key factors for discussion.

Sum107, I can tell you it should not be so serious anymore and the family background of the children should be more balanced now.  Of course there are always rich and really rich people sending their children to school, so this can't be prevented.

But having said that, I think parents who would send their children to SPK will mostly be in financially sound situation.  If comparing to other children studying in gov't aided schools from primary to secondary school, SPCS students will be paying tuition over 10 years.  This is really depends on parents looking at things from different angle.  Of course if you compare to studying in Braemar Hill or ISF, the tuition is very low.

So, just collect more information and make the decision for yourself.  I wish you good luck and the very best!

Agreed to Ian.  Actually, parents don't have to consider how to choose between these 2 KGs at the moment.  These are the 2 most popular KGs for girls in HK, there are fierce competition.  I believe eventually less than 10% of the parents will need to make the difficult choice.

Hi Sum107,

When you say 最後選擇, are you considering attending only one of the interview?  Since obviously both kindergartens have closed their application already.

At the end, only 180 children will be admitted by either kindergarten this year and both will have an acceptance rate below 10%.  Based on the statistics I collected last year, eventually only 20-30 children are accepted by both kindergartens and need to make the decision.  So, if you will attend both interviews anyway, I suggest you to let the child attend the interview first and see their reaction.  It's too soon to think now if you intend to attend both interviews anyway.

Last year, my daughter made the decision of attending SHCK herself as she fell in love with the environment and teachers.  The reason why I need to ask how to compare SHCK and SPK last year is because of my daughter's strong will on SHCK and I wasn't sure whether I should still attend SPK's interview.  Sometimes they are the one who need to go to school, not us.  So I am glad that I listen and respect her decision.  Hopefully this can make it easier for you!

Hi Sum107,

I agree with you that parents should have better understanding of the kindergartens rather than just following the brand-name effect.

Hope your daughter be more co-operative in the interviews to come!  Meanwhile, take a short break from further thinking first since mentally both your daughter and you may need a break to refresh for later interview.
