SJC Interview

Hi everyone,

Janice and I just came back and my feeling regarding this school is not very good.  First, we have to wait outside of the school and wait for those Primary one applicants to come out first. Though it was 10 o'clock in the morning, it was hot, especially for a 2 yrs old child!  

Second, Janice was so unlucky that the interviewer was cold and no smile at all.  After Janice went into Room G, the fat teacher gave her different pictures of animals and furnitures and asked her to put the correct one in the zoo.  However, Janice was't interested in that very much and was attracted by other tables' colorful toys. She kept looking around and didn't pay much attention to the teacher. Even though she picked the correct pictures later on, I found that this teacher doesn't have much patience on Janice and no response at all. After that, she just asked Janice to take a candy and said the interview is over. The whole process is less than 2 minutes. I just feel that the teacher isn't very good and didn't spend a little time to know anything about my girl.  After that, a parent told me that this woman is the english teacher for the primary school.  

Later on, the school arranged us to go to the kindergarten and take a look at the campus.  But I just don't understand why they didn't let us to have a look of their classroom. The teacher said we have to wait until the open day in the beginning of the school year.  Now I believe in what other people said about the bad things regarding this school.

I didn't intend to let Janice study in this school at all, I just want her to have more experience in interview as she also apply for st. catherine and kentville.  But i realized that Creative and York's intervew arrangement are far better than St. Johannes, and they both accept Janice already.

我都覺得安排得唔係咁好,我10:10分到達,見到校門外已經排晒長龍,不過好彩我記錯時間,我以為in.10:30但原來係10:00!所以可能相比其他人已經等少o左時間,但入到學校足足等o左個幾鐘,校舍又細,人又多,天氣又熱又晒,又冇位坐,小朋友都幾辛苦!我都覺得in.得好快,成個過程都唔知有冇3分鐘!

Hi cherriemama & jc_mom,
My interview time was 11:00am and it was real hot by then.  My son is an extremely active boy and it is almost impossible to make him stay in one spot for so long when we had to queue outside the school.  I had to chase him up and down Waterloo Road like a crazy woman.  I also think the arrangement was undesirable.  But mind you, the arrangement for SC is quite similar according to what I read from last year's comments.  (Also have to queue outside the school!).  I just hope it won't rain!

點解個先生一定要insist你BB答中文名喎?英文名都係名.Cherrie真係乖,有say good morning甘有禮貌,我個牙刷仔就.....(sigh),不過個先生俾mud佢,佢都拿多份俾我(糖,波波&氣球),唔知孝順有無credit?(just joking)

Never mind, this is also not my target.  Just take it easy.  Janice is really unlucky to have met that teacher.  I am sure she will be a lot luckier next time.  Anyway, it's good experience for both the child and the mother.  By the way, do you know that the Waterloo campus is only the primary school campus.  The kindergarten is actually located in Flint Road. (right next to Maryknoll).  Therefore, it doesn't help much even they let you visit the classrooms today.  Keen Mind is so much better when compared to SJC at least as far as transparency is concerned.

今天同大家一樣在馬路傍等候約３５分鐘才入內，不過１０時３５分已經見完，面試時間約６分鐘，在玩的時候我已問亞仔，你叫什麼名字．．．．．他好像突然失憶，不想答我，唯有即時訓練．．．．

見我們的老師全程都是用廣東話問，起初亞仔都是不什主動應對，首先問佢什麼是放在客廳內，亞仔先拿起馬騮，個老師都笑，之後他都有放梳化，枱及電話，前二者老師問佢是什麼？他都答對，問佢電話，他答是垃圾！！最後又放咗老虎入去，我只好說家中客廳真是有老虎（玩具）．

之後老師打開故事書講故事，說有個小朋友平常每天都送早餐給幾隻動物吃，問他今天有沒有食早餐？再問他那些是什麼動物？他都一一回答，不過有時我都要重覆問題一次，不過班房內突然有一個氣球爆裂，亞仔即時心散，我乘機話亞仔好驚，老師即刻請佢食糖，我就提佢：老師比糖，你要點講呀？之後老師繼續講故事，話有一天小朋友遲起床，小動物很遲才有早餐吃，它們會否肚餓？我重覆老師的問題，他最後都勉強答咗．臨走老師話幾好喎，還送他一個氣球．

跟住我們去了參觀幼稚園，比想像中華麗，最失望是不能參觀班房，在場老師話今年收５班，每班１５人，只有開學前才可以參觀．

總括來講，今次學校給我的印象是比預期好的！

I also have that 活動特刊, but I think the arrangement of st.catherine also same !!
After SJC , I had to go York to interview today!
Before today, My plan is SJC just for experience, and if another are fail (SC, Kenv, Pui ching..), I will
chose York!
But after interview today, York give me the bad feeling, becoz compare with SJC, york ask the question is too easy, and the facilites is too old, so I think i will not chose York also!!
But also, I just don't like SJC  k2 and k3 is full day, except this point , i will consider SJC !!

Hi danielboy,

I did take their school bus and go to Flint Rd campus, the playground is better than York, but they just don't let us visit the classroom inside.

I have chosen English interview for St. Catherine and the queue should be shorter.

My friend told me that last yr the interviewer at St. Catherine asked his daughter to help a paper doll to select clothes to wear, and also ask about the nose, eye, etc.  Then they asked parents why they choose st. Catherine, who take care of the child, no need to sing any song.

I've also attended the SJC interview with my daughter this morning at 10:00 a.m.  I am really disappointed with today's arrangement as all the parents and their kids needed to wait at outside for a long long time under a very shiny and hot weather....  even after our entering to school, but the interview time was too short and my daughter was performed very bad in compare with her daily performance, the reason is that,  she was so tired and hot .... the interviewer was a fat teacher with a mask wearing, my daughter was really afraid and unable to perform in a normal situation.

After that, even though we've gone to visit their kindergarten, we couldn't go in to take a look of their classrooms, this seems so odd....  

Overall, this interview gives me a poor image of SJC,  I believe that I will not consider it any more..

HI, my daughter went to SJC interview to-day.There are so many people. My daughter  is so happy in the school campus and she refuse to leave. When she had an intervew in the other school. She hold my hand and said " go home". I am sure she likes SJC.  I met one of the parent there, she said her son study in SJC Nursery classthis year,She going to put her daughter in SJC this year. Her comment of SJC is excellent. The teachers give me a very good impression. They are so poilte. Overall. I do like the school, I think I will put my daughter there.

This is not the first time that I have heard about not letting parents visit the classrooms.  Parents also talked about this weird arrangement last year.  I am therefore not surprised at all and in the same way, not disappointed.  I didn't even go to the Flint Road campus because I have never considered this kinder right from day one.  Anyway, it's over.  I just hope Janice has not been intimidated by the horrible teacher.

I am not worried about the questions that will be asked in SC for Daniel.  It's very seldom that he doesn't respond and he is truly bilingual.  I am also not worried about singing a song because he loves singing and is never shy to do it in front of strangers.  I am only worried about his manners.  Today, he cooperated fully and answered all questions correctly by himself without having me to repeat any question.  I just kept my mouth shut throughout the interview.  But at the end, when he was given a candy, I asked him to let mommy keep the candy so that he can eat it outside the interview room.  He replied no in front of the teacher!  I was so embarrassed!  

When I go to SC two weeks later, I am not sure whether he will sit quietly and patiently while the interviewer is asking me questions. (the chance is actually rather low).  I have a feeling he might request to leave.  I just have to cross my fingers.

Hi tanny,
I also wanted to look for you but it was rather difficult for me because I went there by myself.  My husband had to work in China yesterday.  I had to keep my eyes on my little devil who kept running around.  My eyes were sooooooooo tired.  Anyway, I might see you on Monday.  I still have your mobile number.  In case I accompany Daniel on his first ride on the school bus tomorrow morning, I might give you a call.  

Daniel's interview was conducted in Chinese.  My main concern about this school is the full day school in K2 & K3.  Personally, I prefer half day school for kids under the age of 5.  That's why I am not considering SJC.

Did you choose to have the interview conducted in English?  I did not know we could choose.  I just went into the room assigned to us and sit down as told.  

On which day will you accompany Ian to school?
