St Paul Interview notice

My son has just finished the interview today. The description of Teresa was very exact and detailed. Anyway, my son handed in the profolio to the prinicipal and she invited my son to share the content with her (I captured many photos in the profolio instead of texts and recommendation letters).

After sharing the profolio, the principal showed a picture card to my son and asked him what happened in the picture. It was a fire. The principal asked why there was a fire and suggested him to exhaust the posibilities. My son gave her about 4 possible reasons. Then, the principal asked my son to describe what the ways the victims used to escape from the material place. My son could tell several ways. The principal gave time allowance to my son to think. She was so nice and considerate. She then asked my son if he were the victim getting out of the material place, what he would do. My son told her that he would try to rescue other victims. The principal asked him what else? My son told her that he would try to put out the fire. The prinicipal then probed. My son told her that he would seek help from firemen. The principal asked him how to contact the firemen. My son told her that he went to fire station on foot. The princpal asked him what other ways? My son told her to go there by horse cart, taxi and MTR respectively. As the principal was still dissatifsfied with the answer, she asked if there was any alternative that my son needed not to go to fire station in person. My son finally told her that he would call firemen by "999" Emergency Call. Then, the principal ended the interview.

I agree that the interivew is aimed at assessing the presentation as well as the intellectual ability of the candidates. So, don't worry too much. I think a relaxed attitude, good observation  and spontaneous response are adequate.  

Meanwhile, the parents played no part in the interview except being a good silent audience.

I submitted our applicatiom form (No.9xx) on the 1st day (15-9-04),however,our judgement day is on 2xth-10-04.Can you tell me why ? We have no  兄長在聖保羅書院或小學就讀, nor any relationship.
Is this the answer.

我都不太明白爲什麽會那麽“遲”！我記得我在第二天交表，已經在10月初面試了，我仔仔也沒有優勢（非教徒、沒有兄長在SPC讀，又不是舊生），唯一“可能優勢”（我估）是自己住在學校附近。你呢？你是否住港島區？

Please don't care too much about the date as it may be meaningless to school authority. As learnt from the school authority, religious background plays no part in the screening process.

I submitted the application form on 13.09.2004 and the interview was offered on 13.10.2004.

As a late comer, it may be a great benefit as you could learn from the sharing and experience of other candidates. Please be relaxed and try to make use of the time left to get well prepared.

各位家長, 您們好!
我的小朋友今年九月入了St Paul Boy讀小一, 基本上面試情況與您們差不多, 面試時序好像是按遠近幼稚園來排, 並不是按交表先後, 我的小朋友差不多是最後幾天才輪到他面試, 但幸運地第一輪已經ok, 有沒有兄長或舊生關係並不重要, 因為小朋友是獨子, 爸爸也不是舊生, 其實收不收純粹取決於陳校長個人覺得你的小朋友怎樣, 家庭環境也不特別重要, 反正小朋友班內有幾個同學是申請減免學費(交留位費時偷看到的), 一些家長聚會大家都穿得很普通, 校舍年年暑假都大幅裝修, 目前一, 二, 三, 四年級班房已重裝, 有 IT projector, 每名小朋友被分配一個沒有鎖的儲物櫃, 有些不常用的書, 文具或物件可留在學校, 功課就幾多, 每天5-7樣, 並要小朋友每天上網做那個[每日一篇], 功課量相當大, 故此不要替小朋友安排太多課外活動, 剛開學時, 學校安排六年級生一對一帶著小一生熟悉學校各方面, 真的非常好, 另外高年級生(4-6)每星期只可分批和分段使用低年級生操場(禮堂旁邊那一個), 避免了給高年級生撞倒機會, 而低年級生是不准上天台操場, 校方開學至今安排了兩個talk, 老師們都很熱心解釋校方政策及安排, 遲些我們還參加了校方與一位中大教授合辦的一個兒童教育seminar, 反而家教會就沒有提供太多支援, 希望將來有改善, 很久已沒有上BK, 小朋友這個星期三開始中期test, 考到下星期三, 有興趣您們可另設題目再談, 祝各位好運.

其實我們永遠估不到學校安排面試的次序是按什麽的。如果你說以幼稚園知名度，我不敢說。我仔仔只是讀區内一所收$1,600/月學費的幼稚園。

我仔仔早在10月初已經面試了。但我仔仔同班同學（住上環）卻在這個星期尾才面試。那又可以有什麽結論？

我仔仔和他校友，在不同時段入表，卻不約而同地，在下星期面試。在某程度上，可作一些結論!
但無論如何，正如 longlong3 所云：

Hi Teresa,

Congratulations!My boy only accepted as watiing list. I am very disapppointed. Frankly speaking, to my son, Stanley St. Stephen should be more matched with my son character. However the school fee is too high. I wish I can be enrolled for St Paul if someone can "give up" the seat. Teresa, as I aware that for 1st round lucky draw, you choose St. Peters. Is it right? If accepted by St Peters, how would you choose?
