Can anyone studying in ST Mary tell me are they now only having English books in english subject and others are using chinese books.

Are their eng standard still high

Both English and Science are using english books. They are using P3 english textbook for P2 student.

St. Mary小一嘅英文科(用二年級課本)同Science都係用英文課本,其實你唔使担心佢哋啲英語水評喎,聽其他家長講,佢哋會在高小轉返晒英文,而我所見,St. Mary嘅中學,係全英語對白,上運動堂,早會,一切廣播都係講英文的,佢哋搞得一條龍,我諗佢哋點都唔會令到小學同中學課程函接唔到掛.

不過如果你都仲係有懷疑,咁你不如揀Maryknoll啦,Maryknoll嘅英文就一定勁了,我知道有人會考時科科都攞光頭,為獨是英文就攞A喎.

I do prefer Maryknoll but there are other concerns.

1.        Fierce competition than St Mary
2.        Not all girls can enter the secondary school
3.        Comments that those girls are more snobbish than St Mary (maybe because of the district, most likely girls are from upper level family) Afraid that they will compare with others.

I have an address in Yau Ma Tei and I think the chance of entering into St Mary is much higher than Maryknoll. My girl is studying in PLK kindergarten and got 10 marks in choosing PLK 陳守仁。 If accepted by PLK,  I need to give up the lucky draw. Can I beg for a seat after the lucky draw even I have not join it.

ballpen, what do you mean by 科科都攞光頭? both maryknoll and st mary have 100% HKCEE pass rate, and maryknoll have a much higher rating for getting an A (according to 2002 statistics, on average,  each student can get 2.04 'A' for maryknoll but 0.94 'A' for st mary.)

I haven't heard that Maryknoll 小一嘅英文科 用二年級課本 wor....
Actually, english standards are about the same for these schools la, getting an A in HKCEE english is nothing compare to a native english speaker!!
All English medium schools in HK 係全英語對白, not just st mary bor....

Some people say that girls from Maryknoll are snobbish. I can only say that 'maybe', but that would only apply to just a few, just like any other schools. I personally know a few St Marians (secondary section) who is snobbish as well.

我覺得如果對一間學校嘅程度有懷疑,咁就真係唔好揀喇,因為揀學校真係要揀一間合心水嘅,如果唔係,好容易會讀得唔開心的,所以我覺得要揀一間要自己有信心嘅學校囉,其實做得band 1嘅學校都係好的,只要勤力讀書,無論讀邊間,出來嘅結果都會一樣,反之,唔勤力讀書,畀你讀到名校都係無用.

你唔使咁激,我諗你誤會左我嘅意思,我係話St. Mary嘅小一英文課本係用二年級嘅課本,而唔係話Maryknoll.

我更係知英中係全英語授課啦,但因為呀bau對St. Mary小學嘅英文程度有懷疑,所以我就提醒佢,St. Mary中學係英中囉.

至於Maryknoll,我從來都無話唔好喎,我淨係話佢哋啲英文真係好勁,就算一個唔多勤力嘅學生,英文都可以攞'A'啫,但我真係唔知你點解咁嬲呢

Of course the standard of both ST Mary and Maryknoll should be very very good but I think most mother has preference in choosing the school and hope to have the best one for their kids.

All I prefer is to get a English school for my girl and in the selection process, there are pros and cons for each school.

For St Mary, it seems that the chance to get in are better because I have the address in YMT. Also the primary can be connected to secondary is another pros in choosing it.

For Maryknoll, the beautiful school campus is the dream school for all the parents and they have swimming pool (I am a swimming coach and always want my girl to be good in swimming too) which also attract me. Also, I browsed their website, their extra activities are very attractive too since my girl is learning gymnastic. Their high English standards is the main point that attract me and this school is quite close to my house (only 15 mins time as I live in Sham Shui Po). I also want my girl to study English poetry when she is young because I studied when I was small and even now I still can remember some good poems. But the cons are that not all the girls can go to secondary school and the competition are very keen too

For PLK³‾¦u ¤‾, since I got 10 marks, the chance is higher than other people and their new school campus is also attractive. Also, they are using English as the teaching media and is a mixed school (in fact I prefer to study in girls school in secondary but most the good schools are monosex only). For cons, all knows that they don’t have secondary school so you need to worry when they are P6.

I believe both of the above are good schools and if my girl can enter either one of them, I will be very happy too.

sorry ar ballpen, 你話St. Mary嘅小一英文課本係用二年級嘅課, of course i understand la, i think 你誤會左我嘅意思 instead, what i meant is ,since both schools are 全英語授課, both st mary and maryknoll 嘅英文程度 should be good and about the same as other english schools! some people keep saying that maryknoll 啲英文真係好勁,  i think it implies to st mary and other english schools as well, as you said 一個唔多勤力嘅學生,英文都可以攞'A'- agree?
Actually, i wonder if maryknoll or st mary's english is really that great as praised by other parents, or they're also hearing from 'here and there'....

There maybe 1 table on Monday. BUT I handed in the form on Wednesday and definitely there were 2 tables. 2 staff of each table, one of them check the documents and one of them wrote down the details on blue paper and gave us a no. If there were 2 tables that means there should be 2 blue papers la.  I guess more than 400 candidates. Keen competition. A stupid game every parent has to paly.

I saw 1 girl wore St. mary school uniform applied for her sister.

我想問下大家, 有沒有聽過(天神嘉諾撒小學), 係 st. mary 姐妹學校, 我所知道下年2005開始, 天神 05年入讀小一既學生, 可以一條龍入 st. mary 中學.

如果我本身係 天神嘉諾撒小學old girl , 我本人想囡囡入 st. mary 讀書, 但 st. mary 我只有 15 分, 天神就有 20 分,請大家比 d 意見 !
