There is a distant learning diploma course held by YMCA (TST) Tel:22687070.  They will send you 6 manuals and you need to finish 3 assignments in 6 months time.  The manuals are easy to read and you can follow the instructions step by step when playing with you child.

One more point: if you don't want to study the diploma and just have the manuals, you have order them through internet with a cheaper price.  I forget the web site address already but you can ask Moira of YMCA for the details.

Hpw much of this course? Do you need to spend a lot of time to this course? Do you think it is easy to apply when you teaching your children?

I visited this topic about a month ago and didn't expect such a big change.

I also try to implement the Montessori approach at home.  Honestly the materials are not easy to make but many of them can be easily substituted by toys readily available elsewhere.  And I think we don't have to rigidly stick to the Montessori materials.  As long as we can find substitutes that can still teach the same concepts, that would do.

It is a good idea to sign up courses or purchasing a whole set of materials.  But probably as busy parents as we are, one may want to learn more about what is Montessori before signing up courses or making the purchase.  We don't want to spend the time and the money and find out later that it is different from our expectations.  Afterall, it is the quality time that we spend with our children that counts most.

I couldn't agree with janejane anymore: The most important point is on the teaching method rather than the materials.

I have read some books about Montessori which enlightened me so much.  I realised that there are so much we can do at home to teach our children in a fun way.  Please click into the following links to view my comments on the books:

The kit is too expensive.
It is not worth
if you don't have time to use it or you don't know how to use with montessori concepts.
Do you know using montessori kit is something quite professional? It needs training in order to get a cert.
In fact, the kit is boring to kids if you don't explore.

I have many common toys with montessorri concepts that can be collected everywhere, more attractive and much cheaper.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT MONTESSORI TEACHING MATERIAL (SUCH AS BLOCKS) OR BOOKS? I WANT TO HAVE THE INFORMATION OF BOOKS FOR MY BABY.

There is no book especially written for babies.
But you may buy vcds "reschool Power" for your baby.

I was in Wanchai (Tai Yuen Street) last week and found some shops there are selling kind of material which can be used by Montessori.  e.g. wood ABCs, wood 123  and some simple blocks.  All are made in wood but not very good quality. You might have to use sandpaper to polish them before giving to your baby.  Price is very cheap, only $6-7 per pack, if you buy more, will give you one more pack free of charge.  The shop is located near the end of Tai Yuen Street, it sells stationary.

You can also take a look at Watson's. I found the one in Causeway Bay has many wood puzzle (I found something similar but very expensive in Wise Kids)  Watson is selling at $9.9 per set, they are made in wood, the quality is not bad.  I found they have 4 seasons, fruits, ABCs......

Hi there,

I am a working mom and new to "蒙特梭利"教學法. Just wondering if any experience mom can share their viewpoints / experience when implementing such method.

I also have the following queries:
1. I only have v. limited time to spend w/ my 1-yr old BB, is "蒙特梭利" still a good method then? If so, how should I fully utilized the time / how to implement it more effectively?

2. I've read through the internet and read some articles, saying that some children whom adopt to "蒙特梭利" at kindergarden stage may encounter some difficulties in primary school, as most of the p. schools don't adopt "蒙特梭利". Is that true?? and what's the solution??

3. Just found out that most of the "蒙特梭利" materials are best to be made at home. But I don't think I can spare time for that. And I am not intended to pay a high price to buy from the local market. any suggestion?

How much is the toy that you've bought?

I've seen similar ones from Stepping Stones, costing around $70~80.

So is it better to buy from 文具公司 or Watsons?

Here is a UK site having a long list of montessori materials. You may order selectively from there. Should be less than $10,000.
Or get the ideas, collect similar toys by yourselves. This is what I have done already.
