Dear all ESF parents,

申請左ESF year 1 ，唔知幾時會收到 interview 通知呢？ 電話通知 / 信件通知？ interview 會於何時進行呢?  如果無得 interview，係咪一定會有 waiting list number？  何時會收到 waiting list number 呢？

Per information from the ESF website - notification by email after 4 Oct.

Interview - most likely in January/February for the first round

I don't think there is any official waiting list number but the admission officers of some schools may kindly inform you how your situation is.

I know ESF has English Programme, is it useful to take it's programme before interview?  Thousand thanks.

We took the program before for my elder son.  Not for the English proficiency but just to let him be familiar with the environment.

A reminder - such programme is offered by the ESF Services, not the primary schools themselves.

Yau_Cheung: Instead of the Eng. Program, I signed up my son for the ESF sports camp held over the Mid-October term break so as to help him get familiarized with the school we are applying for.
Furthermore, the 2 K2 classes from his kindergarten were also invited to our target ESF primary school for the Y2 Christmas Production. He told us he really likes the school after the outing.

We received the letter for an interview around November and the interview was held in late January. ESF primary schools staff visited the kindergarten and interviewed my son and other applicants during class time in mid-December.

The teachers teaching the extra english classes are not the same teachers teaching or interviewing the children. Plus, the programme are not designed with the purpose of attending interviews. I would say that if you think your child need extra classes to boost up his/her English, any English tutor can do that job.

Yesterday I received the below acknowledgement from ESF.  Do you receive the same?


Subject: Acknowledgement of ESF Year 1 Application for Academic Year 2008/09

4 October 2007

Dear Parent,

Thank you for applying to ESF for a place in Year One in an ESF school in August 2008. We would like to advise you of the next steps in the application process.

Applications received at ESF Centre before the Year One deadline of 24 September 2007 will be drawn randomly by computer to determine the order in which they are processed.

Applications will then be sorted by category and priority within category. First offers for interviews will go to those in category one. Within each category those with a priority are processed first.

The priorities are:

those with siblings in an ESF school
those whose parents are former students of an ESF school
those attending ESF Kindergartens (for Y1)
The individual ESF schools according to zone will inform you by letter whether your child has been offered an interview in early December. Interviews will take place at the beginning of the New Year  

Please also note that, dependent on applications received, there may be a need for school re-zoning to balance numbers across schools.   

As we have limited spaces, those not offered an interview are placed on the wait list according to their category and the number they have drawn.

想請問一下你地d小朋友係咪都係來自esf kinder架, 請問如果我個小朋友係05年1月出世, 佢應該幾時報year1, 因為佢唔係讀esf kinder又冇朋友讀緊, 所以唔係好清楚, 見你地講緊報year1, 想請教一下問定, 我怕自己搞錯日子miss咗報名要等多年, 唔該咁多位

Yes, both my hushand and myself received the same acknowledgement.

Which school you're target for ?  My 1st choice is Shatin Junior, however, knowing that the competition is very keen, I have a bit worried though my son's Englis is OK but sometimes kid's performance during the interview process is out of our control.

How about you ?

多謝妳的回覆, 請問妳有冇聽過話CWBS比較容易入, 其實我都有諗過victoria, 但九龍區只有KINDER, 中小學都要過海, 我本身住西貢, 而且老公唔想仔仔要過海番學噤辛苦.

Some parents said that it is easier to enter ESF primary in Hong Kong Island as 5 primary schools are located in Hong Kong Island and the other 5 are located in Kowloon and New Territories but the population....

You're right.  But I recommend that you shall go to ESF web site in Jun/Jul 09 and make sure the application period will not be changed.
