I believe that interview is conducted in the year the child is admitted, i.e. around Jan or Feb, after interviews with ICS kindie children have been completed.

There are 2 teachers responsible for the assessment. The child has to take the test alone. Take a look at the learning objectives of Reception 2 to help prepare for the assessment.

Questions on numbers, letters, shapes, colours, body parts, days of the week, clock reading, simple math, etc. will be asked. Letters and numbers recognition and writing is also tested. Another teacher will read your child stories and ask questions afterwards. He might ask the child to retell the stories.

Many thanks for your prompt response and information.   Maybe I should apply it now and wait for the notice of interview next year.   

Do you know how many students in one class for P1?   Do the majority of students are Chinese in this school?

There're 17-20 children per class in Pre-grade 1 and 25 in Grade 1.  The majority is Chinese.

2. ICS有 OPEN DAY 嗎 ?
3. ICS的課外活動是否需要收費 ? 費用大約多少? 是課後還是上課時間呢 ?

Hi all ICS parents,

I really want my daughter to study at ICS since Reception class, but I do want to know if for students that are studying P1 or above, do they need to take extra tutorial classes (e.g. Maths, Chinese..etc.)?

I'm a bit worrying if students use to take tutorial classes at ICS as those that are studying in Local schools. I'm afraid that I can't stand the pressure. I want my daughter to study and learn happily, so really appreciated if you can with me. Thanks in advance.

I'm looking forward to Jan 2008 to join the pre-reception class.

However, I have no idea how much chance he can get a place since I've heard that so many people want to send their children to ICS. The ICS offering a place is not based on what religious you believe. It is important that your kid can fully communicate with native English teachers.

Although my boy is just 3.5 months old, I and my wife have been thinking / debating to let my son go the traditional stream or the international stream.  Finally, we decided to go the international and we thought ESF was the most suitable.

Not untill yesterday did I notice the existence of ICS and having surfed ICS's website and scrolled thro' all these 29 pages of discussion by ICS's parents, I really felt the genuine heart and love that my boy will receive in ICS.  I think it is a more than desirable school for my boy because it also instills Christian's values and beliefs (we are Christians) which we believe is very important for the all-round development of a person.  We hope our son not only develops at the academic side but also gets wholesome spiritual growth to develop characters as a responsible, loving person who cares people around him in the small and big social circles.

So, I think there will be a lot of heated debates and rethinking between me and my wife about whether to send my son to ESF or ICS.  May God give us direction.

I don't want to see any further comparison between these two schools (i.e. ESF & ICS). It was because, it had made many bad effects here previously. Unfortunately, some parents don't go into this forum anymore due to this type of dicussion.

However, I would like to give you a brife suggestion. Before you intend to make this decision, you should ask yourself what schooling you expect your kid do. Furthermore, you may try to let your kid go to the target school at least once and ask him whether he/she likes the school or not. If your kid loves the school, he/she must do very good jobs in every moment of time.

So, I and my wife have agreed to visit as many IS as possible before making the decision of what to choose.

If parents know the date when ICS (no matter kinder, primary or high school) is open for visit, pls alert us!

Wow, to my surprise.  Debeture of ICS has been up by over 200%!  from around 60k to 190k.

Though 190k is not a barrier to me at this moment, I am more concern about the DRASTIC increase in the debeture and the school fee.  Seems that the big increase is never-ending....year on year!

Though I really love the school, I am considering to switch to ESF which has also accepted my son.  What if the school fee will be up to $20,000 (present value) by the time my son is studying at ICS seondary school.....

Any advice?

If you've already purchased the debenture, you won't need to pay the new price.  

You're right, the fees are increasing quite drastically.  There isn't much we can do but such move is understandable.  Money is needed for future capital expenditure, especially when it has its own campus now and we still need to pay back the bank loan for the new school building.  So where does the money come from?  If you have also compared the fees of other international schools, you'll find that ICS is not among the most expensive.  Many schools require an annual levy (over 10k) in the absence of a debenture.  The interest generated from the $190,000 debenture is less than the annual levy required by other schools.

Can't compare with ESF in terms of fees as ESF got grants from the government.  Its fees are the lowest.
