with all the respect to everyone and if you allow me to give my 2 cents opinion...
i do think that heidi's son has given other interesting version and answered the question with a different thinking.
as the subject is general science, i would suggest this will be a good point to think out of the box!
from another angle, i do agree with boilermaker that challenging the teacher's credibility may not be the best way to do, as heidi mentioned that the mark finally is not that important.
it's just different point of view, not really a teaching issue.
let the teacher knows your opinion and work together to get a better co-ordination in the future!
it's actually my 0.2 cent.... not even worth 2 cents....

On the contrary, wearing is a subset of using, there are surely lots of diff ways of using protective gear.

I thought our kids are being encouraged to be more creative ?  To think out of the box ?    The kids should be allowed to think in a broader perspective, and not just limited to the TB used in school.  Otherwise Prof C Kao couldn't have invented the optical fibre !

During the past few years, I have often felt that the teachers in TSL are more open-minded in many aspects than teachers in most local primary schools and praised them for this, I am sure they will not disappoint me !

To engage in friendly discussion =/= no arguments allowed, =/= challenging the authority of the teachers.  Yes the teachers have the ultimate authority re marks, but what I like of TSL teachers is, at least they do try and consider diff points of view before passing judgement.

dear e-doctor,
feel a little better now, but still keep coughing quite a lot. mainly during the night and go into air-conditioning area...

2 things you should try :
1.  冬羌 (winter ginger), if you are not anti-preserved food too much;
2.  龍莉葉煲廋肉湯 (can buy the leaves from traditional chin herbal medicine stores in the market, ie where the shopowners pick them from the hills if you dare; or buy from chin herbal medicine shops; the fresh ones are of course better than the dry ones) - of course you can put more things in this soup if you boil the Chin type of soup.

These 2 things worked for me when I coughed a lot back in Feb.     The whole family can drink the soup (altho the kids may not like it).

B*, Thank you for your information searched from Wikipedia.

heidikl, I do agree with your point of views that teachers need to pay more attention when setting the test / exam papers.

boilmaker, good communication between teachers and parents are important. Our teachers are open-minded and always welcome different voices and opinions.  That's why our school provided i-mail service to parents , students and teachers as a tool for better communications.

F,

same applies to my kid !
We've tried Chin herbal medicine too (forgot the name) but no use.
Some ppl said need to drink fresh lotus root juice - we did not try this one.

An ENT specialist said either you "solder" the nose (like you do soldering of metal wires haha but then the consequences is the sense of smell will be affected), or just wait for a few more years and see.  Cos nose bleeding is only horrifying, most usually not fatal (unless .....).

He gave us a tube of ointment, can put in doorway of nostrils whenever the huminidity is low, and said that usually helps for most patients.  The ointment is oil-based, suitable for kids, and I think the idea is to keep the nose moist, not toooooo dry.  The ointment is called "Nisita" nasal ointment, an oil-based jelly, kept in the fridge so cold.  Can give this a try.  (But my kid doesn't like the jelly feeling.)

My kid usually nose bleeds after high fever, or after standing under the sun for tooooo long, ==> inside of head is hot, so try to avoid that.  I give cold drinks / ice cream and hope it will help to stop head overheating.  (This is 100% opposite to what ppl normally does, no cold food if not feeling well.)  Also can take a shower incl hair.  Just to cool off.

And I use damp towel (cooler) to help press the top part of his nose, if not handy then I use wet tissue.

Anything to stop the nose bleed.

And PLSSSSSSS   refrain from calling me e-doc, otherwise I may likely get sued by the local medical council !!

I agree that we parents need to communicate with teachers.  I think it was natural that heidikl inquired the GS teacher about the concerns they had on the test questions.

Personally, unless the teacher said something factually wrong or made some fundamental mistakes, otherwise I would ask my kids to respect the teachers and explain to them from the standpoints of the teachers.  In this case, I would teach them that we can use shoes/helmets/gloves by wearing them or we can use a gun by holding it or firing it.  But it just sounds a little odd to say that we use bones to do something because there is no way that we can initiate and stop using them. However, I totally respect other parents who may take a different approach in a situation like this.  I thought the parents were asking for opinions here, unless I misunderstood her who was asking for support instead?
Nevertheless, I think we should not make negative comments about teachers in front of our kids.

P.S. Wilkipeidia information is not verified and should not be used for teaching kids directly.  But coming from someone suspected to have medical background, I trust that what was presented for bones was scientifically accurate.

Many thanks for all opinion and comments. I'm sure that there is no right or wrong.

First of all, the effort of the TSL teachers to think of some tricky and creative questions are highly appreciated and encouraged.

This helps to train up the kids analytical mind and creative mind. And that's why we likes TSL and I mentioned that I like the P.2 test papers overall.

Going back to this question, thanks for Bluestar and Tingmum mentioned what I think of. What I'm looking for is constructive discussion with teachers rather than arguing with the teachers or fighting for the marks blindly.

Here is my personal suggestion:
If the teachers expect more specific set of answers, I would suggest the teacher to mention more clearly in the question, e.g. in this case, he can draw a picture showing a kid riding a bicycle and ask the kids to "write 1 thing the kid need to wear to protect the body". If so, I think it can reduce a lot of ambiguity.

If the teachers use "use" this kind of broad meaning words, they should be flexible enough to accept different kind of answers as long as it is logical. This will not "kill" the kids creativity and the willingness to explore.

Sorry that I may not be 100% correct and I hope that the teachers don't think that I'm a troublesome mum.

flostangraphy,

Although you said here that you want your
“Middle-Age Crisis” to be cured, I don’t think this is what you are thinking from the bottom of your heart now!!

Come on!!   Can you please show us your honesty/integrity as well??

If you have read our posts in the past few days, surely the school is looking for honest kids.
Therefore, please remind “the little Camill tiger” to show his honesty in the upcoming second interview.
Likewise, we expect the parents to possess the same trait as well.

Therefore, own up please!!

Bluestar,

The more you write, the more you are being “betrayed” by your posts!!

Besides being a western doctor, I suspect you have also taken an additional course in the Chinese herbs/medicine.

Bluestar,

Don't worry!!

In order to get free medical advice from you continuously, we will not report it to the local medical council.
Also, as most of them are very busy people, I don't think any of them will have spare time to surf on E.K. so the chance of being sued should be very low.

If you don't feel comfortable with the nickname
"e-doctor", we will address you as e-大夫 from now on!!

Just would like to share to all, got very professional answer from the teacher.

I feel very glad and satisfied (no matter getting  or not the mark) because of the teachers understanding of my concern, the approach the teachers handling this question and the spirit of their continuous improvement. That's highly appreciated.

Dear all,

I think the following is a key summary.

1)        Most of TSL’s teachers are rather
open-minded.   We should feel free to make proposals to the teachers and exchange our views with them on various aspects.

2)        Sometimes, in case some of the questions in the tests or examinations might lead to ambiguous answers, we can express our views to the teachers calmly.
I guess the teachers will also clarify the cases with us with detailed explanation.

3)        Assuming that some of the teachers will also read our posts occasionally, they may also get some good suggestion or “inspiration” from us here!!
