Hi Principal，

   中文的確教得比我預期中深，尤其是測驗中的閱讀理解部份，我也不明白孩子們如何可完成，是否老師在早前有教過呢？我個女平時好依賴，配合埋我嘅着緊，成日都攪到差啲講埋個答案俾佢聽，叫佢做左啲識嘅先，又睇都唔睇就話全部都唔識，但測驗又做到喎！？究竟係老師講解左好多，定係個女食住我而唔肯諗呢？

Last year my son ranked 15 in his class and it printed onto the report but no ranking marked 全級名次 on the report.

However, I asked the teachers individually for 全級名次, they did not tell me the ranking to me in person.

各位tsl家長：

請問您們的孩子每日大慨要用多少時間做功課呢？從學校網頁中得悉部份P.2家長反影家課量增多，請問平日一般有多少功課呢？

阿女現在每朝約6時起床，練完樂器及沐浴後已約下午6時了，只得1.5小時做功課、温默書、做每日一篇及English-Pal，1小時晚飯，約8時許9時已疲倦得不消3分鐘便呼呼大睡了。不但未能温習，而且沒有玩、講故事及傾計的時間。每天這樣趕、趕、趕，我們又沒法搬近一些，每晚看着她疲倦的扯着鼻鼾，真是十分心痛。很害怕將來的功課量增多或在學習上因未能每天温習而跟不上。

請問你們也是過着這樣的生活嗎？可否給我一些意見呢？我是否應幫她轉一間就近的小学呢？

我相信功課量比起絕大多數hk小學少得多。通常1-2hrs做完。但童言和journal用的時間較多。

每晚做功課時我要求他明白，並不單只是做完交差。
P1上網除中英文外，遲些還有maths。我就當那些是溫書。
我們每次於考試/測驗前的週末盡量溫書，考得好不好要看他自己當日狀態。我的要求是他盡力及明白，並非以分數衡量。
這樣當然不會科科100分，但無乜壓力，他仍有進步空間，又確有進步，我已經滿意。

大少7:30am上校車，7am起床。
你住哪，要6am起床 ？

Does your daughter do homework in school? There is homework period.

Relatively speaking, homework is not too much. At least for long holidays, such as Christmas and Easter, kids can enjoy so much!

Set up a timetable for her to follow is a best way for herself to keep track of her daily activities.

To be frank, not too time time chat with her in weekdays. Usually 10-15 mintues on bed. My daughter is in P2, she spends every Saturday (whole day) for ECA. Even during test/exam period.  I did ask her to drop some ECA but she insisted. We treasure Sunday a lot and usually go out for family day, except test/exam week.  However, If she can't finish homework on Friday, she has to stay home on Sunday. I did leave her home on one Sunday as she didn't finish her homework. Afterwards, she is able to finish all homework on Friday.

I also would like to share the following with you.

1) Time to finish homework per day : about one to one and an half hour.

2) Amount of homework per day : 3 to 5.

3) My personal comment is that the amount of homework at TSL is just right.  As every parent has his/her own expectation on what the appropriate amount of homework should be, it is not unusual to see comments from some parents saying that the homework is too much while others are saying just right.
I believe there are many primary schools in HK having more homework than TSL and others will have less.

4)  Our life pattern from Monday to Thursday is also very similar to your case (i.e. the kid needs to go to bed after finishing all the homework while having short leisure time as well).

5) As it is only 2 months since the start of the P1 school life, now is still the transition period from K3 to P1.  It may still be too early to make any final judgement.   I think you can consider to review the situation again after at least 6 months or even after the first year.    But we can imagine that your daughter may need more time to cope with all the changes if she was studying at a Chinese kindergarten with rather limited homework before to an English primary school with “normal” amount of homework now.   

But please keep on encouraging your daughter as everything should be improved gradually over time.

I heard that the school has no fixed classroom for each class (floating class), is it true?  If yes, do your children find any difficulty in such setting?  Many thanks!

I think that is only for the French students (ie those who don't take Chinese) so they need to go to another classroom for French classes while the Chinese students sit in their own classroom for Chinese classes.

Also the French students go somewhere else for Maths too.  Diff speed from Chin students.  Diff homework (becos of diff speed).
But in Maths, eventually what they learn would be the same.  殊途同歸。

If you look at the setting of the school, there is at least 1 fixed classroom for each class.

Unreasonable rumours  

They also go to Computer Room for computer studies classes,
Music Room for music classes,
and to whichever designated classroom for ECA classes.

Ah yes, they also go to swimming pool for swimming classes, and to G/F for PE classes.

Who told you such awfully wrong info ?

Thanks for the detailed clarification.  It was my aunt who has attended the school's briefing lately.  Two of my cousin's friends and my aunt went to the briefing and they all gave -ve comments.  I find it hard to believe so I ask.  You know, I will play the game next year and TSL is one of my targets.  I need your advice in the future gar!

I have -ve comments of behaviour of some individual parents and students, but not of the school as a whole.

其實阿女約7:00才上車，只是吃早餐太慢，要早些起床。

每週只有兩堂homework，她多數只做了少許，我想她必定是掛住傾計啦！我一定要試吓做張時間表給她，已經多次聽人說時間表有用，但覺得每天也是做着同樣的事情，就以為沒有時間表她也應知道何時要做些什麽。也許有了時間表清淅的規限着，她會更明確地知道能快些完成功課，可享有更多自由時間。

好讚同你的做法:

當孩子知道我們有明確的獎、罰準則，會更依規則做事，且會更心服。

要適應的又豈止是小朋友呢！我想我的適應能力比她還差呢！每日經過整天的工作，晚上還要在功課上與她糾纏一番，且時間緊迫。相方的磨擦增加了，而温馨的親子時間卻减少了。我想，連我自己也需多點時間作調節呢！

Just received the syllabus for the first term examination today.

1) Is Chinese Composition = 作文??
Can P1 students know how to 作文??
Or is it Chinese comprehension?

2) Chinese Oral = 说话工作纸??
It seems that we have not seen 说话工作纸 before.

Can any parents please advise what exactly the above two Chinese examination are for P1 students?
