They are using Letterland approach and if your kid is concentrating in class, they should know how to read most difficult words or even manage to try spelling them.

My kid has never taken any course outside school but he and his friends, even the academically less capable ones, are able to pronounce words that they do not know.

So, personally, I don't think York kids need to take phonic classes outside school.

好幾日冇上來了, 有時返工好忙. 我聽工人講同班有2個慧喬, 唔知寫法係唔係一樣. 我囡囡細細粒, 唔知你見到嘅係唔係我囡囡呢?

其實我囡囡係屋企都好百厭, 日日都同我駁嘴駁舌, 我都冇佢符. 但出到去對住陌生人就會好點. 唔使惊, 小朋友百厭點冇所謂, 只要知錯就得.

你囝囝有冇話你知上堂學點麼嘢呀? 我囡囡成日都話冇嘢學. 問佢唱麼嘢歌, "太陽伯伯", "有只青蛙趺落水", 日日如是.

工人都係話我聽, 老師話佢乖, 冇其他了. 但有日, 吳老師打電話給我, 叫我幫佢帶外套. 但我明明有帶, 原來係工人唔識聽, 更加唔識講老師聽啦. 唉, 工人來了一年, 廣東話都係唔得.

另外, 你有冇係九龍城買到校服啊? 我都想買, 特別係PE校服, 因為我覺得太厚.

Actually, I just keep on increasing the interest of study for my kid, instead of putting pressure on him. I think encouragement is the magic for my boy, he is so proud of himself whenever he has achieved sth. I have asked my maid to teach him new English words every day and they do the dictation in a fun-filled way, posting all the difficult words on the wall after each dictation. This is what he did b4 taking the Cambridge test. Now, he still keeps the practice and does dictation of about 80-100 words each day.

York is afterall a good school. The good friends of my boy all manage to get into good schools like St Joseph, KTS, La Salle, DPS, etc. You just need to keep up the interest of study, your kids will surely perform well in school and believe me, they will definitely enjoy their school life.
