1) I heard that there are 2 parts in the first Chinese term test.
Paper 2 seems to be more difficult than the Paper 1.
If he can pass or score marks more than that, may be it is still okay as every kid is not familiar with the format of the first term test and may not know the key tips in answering the questions.

2) 每日一"编" seems to be worth doing everyday as the kids may get used to know more Chinese words and also the tips in doing Chinese comprehension.

Please keep on encouraging him.

Sorry.   I mixed up.

It should be Paper 1 is more difficult than the
Paper 2.

Anyhow, if your son can score high marks in
Paper 2, the average score may be still okay.

All the kids should improve further next time when they are more familiar with the test format.

各位，

今日收到 Math 同 General Studies D test 成績，請問數學得 78.5 分， OK 嗎？ 其實題目唔太深，佢應該全部識做。不過仔仔唔小心，好多係睇錯題目，扣佐分。例如，同一條題目文字題，明明直式做緊加數，到橫式變佐減數，有冇攪錯。 唔知仔仔幾時先會開 "hill".

好彩General Studies D 成績都ok, 老師仲獎佢一張貼紙，佢好開心。

我個女都係讀緊小一，坦白講，我覺得開學到現在似我讀書多過佢讀。因為她是從中文幼兒園升上TSL的，以前只是於週末有兩三本功課。雖然tsl的功課不算多，但是很多功課是creative或是要英文底子好的e.g. Book nuts, Journal, Phonic, Math & GS等，如果我唔幫佢解題或者幫佢作埋，佢真係無功課交呀！所以我一路都覺得佢唔係好跟得上，點知4張papers 平均都有95分，我都覺得好意外。但細問之下，才知Math有幾個人100，而GS更有廿多人90+分呢!  我諗今次test唔係考你識唔識，係考你小唔小心同知唔知test的模式係点(e.g.中文)。所以分數唔係最重要，今次好，下次如果出深啲可能會死晒，最緊要知佢失分的原因。

請問考試是否會深好多呢？教仔女做功課又應抱怎樣的心態呢？我應放手俾佢做，做錯都照交。還是繼續幫她作呢？

細查問之下, 原來小一所有Tests and Exams都會讀卷, 由於小兒鈴聽不太強項, 所以成績不過不失.

請問讀卷是指讀及解大題目，或是每條題目讀解呢？用全英or有中文解析呢？是否小一每次考/測都是如此呢？

原來如此...我個女reading較差，聽就ok。但係佢話只係有講解大題目，我都好奇怪点解佢GS有97分，又似乎你講嘅合埋啲。

其實如果知佢識和明白，只是大意的話，雖然分數低啲，但最少唔怕佢跟唔上丫。而我個女真係弄不清...fewer than...or ...more than ...的，成日問我題數係+定-，似乎問題在於英文的understanding！因為通常男仔較粗心大意，所以個女話高分的大多是女孩子。教署話讀書是求學問，不是求分數，可能就係咁解。

I also want to add a few comments.

1) The level of Chinese taught in P1 so far is somewhat higher than our original expectation.
But I think this is not a bad thing.
I guess most parents would like their kids to be good at all languages such as English, Chinese, and French/Japanese.
Perhaps the school would like to enhance the kids' level of Chinese in particular.

2) I believe some kinds of assistance on homework by parents is required in P1 in the initial stage.
In the longer term, the kids should try to finish all the homework by themselves.
If parents are involved too much, the kids will always rely on you.

I heard from some parents earlier that there is no official announcement of the ranking of examination results in each class/grade.
Only if we ask the teachers individually, they will disclose the ranking to us in person.

Is that true?
