Dear Good Hoper Mummy,

Sorry for any inconvience for U. I'm the new comer on BK.
My daughter will join P1 on coming Sep so I would like to well prepare for her on this summer.  Is P1 student study "normal school" P2 Book on all subject.
Can U list out the P1 book list and then send e-mail to me??  On the other hand, Is it P1A class's overall  performance is better than P1E ?

Chinese and General studies: P.1 level
English: begins with P.1 second term level, via P.2 first term, ends with a bit on P.2 second term.
Math: P.1 to a bit on P.2 first term.

Performance has nothing to do with how students are classified, but on students themselves and teachers.  I tend to believe P.1 students are classified according to surenames cos I have found that such less common surenames as Ma, Mak, Hui, Tang, etc, are quite fairly and evenly distributed among 5 classes.   

I have asked the same question a year ago about preparation during summer, but ended up in doing nothing.  And it seems ok as teachers assume all kids are blank sheets and start from zero.

It seems there are no Native English Teachers in GH, is that true?

Does the school implement any reading scheme to encourage reading habits in Chinese and English?

Q.1: NO.  But it is quite common for many primary schools not having native speakers   Am I right?

Q.2: Yes. Chinese and English book reports monthly (read on your own), and some homeworks based on designated Chinese and English readers purchased through school.

Regarding Q2, you mention students "read on your own", does it mean that students are freely to read any number of books?  Will the teacher encourage students to achieve a target number of books per month?

Yes, as many as u can, but the form which u are required to fill in (names, authors, etc) and sumbit only provides 10+ blanks.  My girl prefers to list a few while some kids fill in the same 10 books every month.  My girl has not noticed me that there is  award, so not sure if there is one.  Maybe there is one in other classes, cos each teacher has different methods of teaching and so.

My girl this morning suddenly told me that there is a monthly award for those class which achieves the highest number of CHinese books.   So 'Q' she has brought this issue up
