唔經唔覺這話題的回應數目已經去到五百，我地都傾左八個幾月，好多謝gongonma開這個話題，使我地有機會互相分享資訊，互相支持，和給其他關心臻美的爸爸媽媽真實地體驗臻美的小一生活。不過如果有更多高年班的家長參與討論，這話題會更充實。

我太太唔係香港長大，佢對香港的教育制度一無所知，如果我唔理，我兩個仔可能會無書讀。

問過我個仔，佢話臻美最吸引佢既地方係小息，因為有好多野玩，地方大，活動多。至於我最喜歡的地方有三樣，第一，臻美的教師；第二，臻美的學生；第三，臻美的家長。正如你舊年提過，這些新理念學校會吸引到一些有理想的教師和高質素的家長。在過去半年裡我參加了很多學校活動，和一些同學的生日會，接觸過好多臻美教師、學生和家長，我認為你所說的是正確的。

Dear all,

I'm sorry.  I have made a mistake about the amount spent on books this year.  I haven't counted a cheque which I paid last July for all the books needed for English.  So, the total amount we spent on books should be around $1,700.

Q1:  "學校的英語老師及英語活動老師當中，超過十位外籍老師？"

A1:   I don't know if there are more than 10 native English teachers (NET) in the school.  For my son's class, he has 3 NET.  One is for the Cambridge syllabus (Mr. Michael), one for Oral/phonics (Ms. Barbara), the other for English Information Technology (Mr. "Eder", maybe wrong spelling).  He has also mentioned another 3 NET who don't teach him.

Q2: "現時各級上課以外的時段，星期一，三，五以英語，二，四以普通話溝通？"

A2: For the morning assemblies (every day before the first lesson), the speaker will use either Putonghua or English respectively.  On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, there are English broadcastings by NET during lunch hours.  The NET talks for a short while and then plays an English song, just like what a radio DJ does.

(for the above questions, infomation is given by my helpful little boy.)

Q3: "『臻美的功課大都著重思考和創作，功課的數量雖然不多，但可能比抄寫和背書要花更多的時間。同一條問題，你可以三言兩語便收工，也可以花漫長時間去深入思考和創作。完全視乎小朋友的能力、興趣和家長的要求。』老師的要求又是怎樣？"

A3: Quite flexible .... 老師很讚賞小朋友能有自己的意見和創意。

Q4: "$300的潛能活動費，每月可參加幾項活動呢？可以選擇嗎？有那些選擇呢？據聞有些是必修的，有那些呢？"

A4: As Tommy said, it's quite complicated.  Kids can choose a few items from : choir, swimming, painting, go (圍棋), science experiments, table tennis, flute, etc...... a lot more.

Q5: "請問拔尖補底的情況又是如何呢？是否一至六年級都會推行？"

A5: This policy applies to 中英數三科 of all grades.  The children are not told whether they belong to 拔尖, 一般 or 補底.  When my son was in P.1 and P.2, we as parents didn't know as well.  But starting from P.3 (開學前), the form teacher informed us of his status in a formal written slip.  I wonder if they have changed their won't-tell-anyone policy or they would only inform parents of higher grades.  But I haven't told my son which category he belongs to and I don't think it's necessary.

Q : "What is the most attractive area for your kid in Pegasus and so as to parents?"

A :  對我來說，其中一個最吸引的地方是"課程設計"，尤其是"主題教育"。記得我在數年前，在互聯網上，曾看過一篇英文短詩。作者住在南非，因種族隔離政策而遭到許多不平等的待遇，在詩中以天生膚色的差異，來表達心中的不滿與無奈。"Dear white, something you gotta know. When I was born, I was black. When I grow up, I am black .............. And you, call me "color"?" (just quote a bit) 當時看了，很是感動。今年在孩子的"奇妙的身體"教材內竟然看到這篇短詩，並中英對照，目的是教導孩子，雖然膚色不同，我們都是活在同一天空下，為什麼不能相親相愛呢？看後更是感動! ........... 另外學校亦參考了"100個人的村落" (If the world were a village of 100 people) ...... 很有意思。

最近他們的主題是香港的歷史。小朋友透過香港的街道來認識以往的港督 .......另外又認識一些懷舊玩意，昔日的電影和金曲等，聽舊歌學修辭法 ........很有趣。

其實校方所採用的教材頗具心思，趣味性很高。

而課程中亦包括有一些"特別"的科目，如"傳媒教育"、"個人發展與成長"、"社群學習"等 。早陣子發生校園欺凌事件，"社群學習"很快撥出一堂談論這個問題，老師與同學觀看故事短片，解釋什麼是欺凌，教導如何應付。

其實還有其他吸引的地方 ....... 暫時講住咁多先啦!

請問除了讀臻美初中部外, 老師或家長們有無提議小朋友升讀那些學校呢?
由於中學課程都好緊下, 咁臻美的初中部係咪都係用活動教學呢?

Thankssssssss for the detailed info.  I believe the soul of the school is the teachers and the free learning environment.  Wishing your kid enjoy as much unlimited knowledge as he feel like to take.

Thanks for your sharing.  I really forgot what I said before here.  If I get it right, the key success of Pagasus is retaining and drawing quality teachers plus good communicatin with parents which shall lead to good students and supportive parents.  Appreicate very much your participation in the kids' education.

請教就真係唔敢當，大家切磋下就可以。早前我個仔睇我上BK，原來上數學堂時，我個仔就坐係你個女隔離，係隔了走廊的隔離，仲有英語話劇都同你個女同台演出，以後真係大把機會切磋。

學校由去年開始(即04年九月入學)改變了面試形式，所以我地都無實際經驗可以分享。佢地會在六小時的親子同樂日作全方位評估，要爸爸媽媽一齊出席。學校網頁有一些去年新生親子同樂日的相片，你可以去拿一點靈感。

Dear Parents,
I see so many potential parents who are interested in Pegasus, let me share with you all my experience for the 2004 primary 1 interview.
My girl was one of the candidates interviewed in mid September 2003.  We are lucky that she is accepted.

Yes it was a 6 hours interview.  But school called it a 親子日營.
From 9am to 3 pm.  In my session there were around 120 families splitting into around 10 teams.  The interview went by team.  For each team, we  played several games, like 競技.  We have activity play, focus at parent and child coop activity.  We have team vs team, that means 2 teams are competitng with each other for some outdoor 障礙.  To a 5 year old, it could be a bit challenge.  Then we have art and craft work that each family has to hand in a project.  Yes, there is a time framed so if you cannot finish it on time, then??  It is not the kid’s work but parents need to help and work together.  Altogether each team will finish 4 group activities.  Make sure you have enough energy.  I recall that day was so hot, and we were all sweat through.  Lunch ? Simple lunch.  Families are advised to bring along bread, but school provided stuffing.  If you see the website’s picture, you can have an idea how it goes.  In the afternoon, we have school tour, plus the hi-light, parents and children split up.  Parents have group discussion among principal or school board members.  And for the kids, I think they have simple interviews or behavior check.
This is really a very thorough interview.  No pressure to kid, but my observation is more on checking out parents child relationship.  How involve the parents with kids are.  Whether parents can abide to school concept…………..  You know 6 hours long with teachers around.  They can see all around behavior.  My girl is quite active and after lunch she goes around to look for play-mate.  I see a teacher approached my girl and check her name-tag.
Having so much openness to the game day, I think the school will have different interview mode from year to year.  
One important point is that each day camp will have their own score and selection.  That means which day interviees go will not affect the result.

By the way, nice to meet all the current school members here.  I have been viewing this topic and digesting if I have made my right choice for my girl.  And I am sure you all can be my guiding light in future.

小女昨天提到我們在校際體操比賽，得到女子團體季軍及一項個人賽季軍；可見我們的小朋友的潛質。

此外有通告邀請三、四年級的同學參加國際性的學能能力評估 World Class Arena 。是測試以發掘小朋友在學業成績以外的潛能、並提升其邏輯數理及解難能力。測試有兩項，分別是數學知識及解難分析；每一項都分別有各有試卷及電腦作答，每一項作答時限為一小時。

我對 World Class Arena 亳無認識，不知道有沒有家長，特別是 Tommy ，會否知道其內容，可否介紹一下。

我對World Class Arena的認識並不比你多，不過你給我的功課，我一定會盡力去做。剛剛上網找到一些資料，嘗試作一個簡單的撮要。

World Class Arena 是由英國政府教育部門制定的測試，並由多間英國大學作出學術上的支援。目的是要發挖和評估九歲和十三歲的資優學童，長遠並會研究和開發相關的教學資源，幫助資優學童學習。這個測試現時已經推廣到英、美、澳、紐，通過測試的學生，都是在數學邏輯和解決難題上達到全球最頂尖的百份之十的學生。

試題不著重知識的深度，但

我估計，學校會繼續提供更多不同類的國際測試，讓我們的孩子參加，一方面，讓校方能更充份了解孩子們各方面的能力，在國際中的水平，從而評估校方在教與學上的情況並作出適當的調節，另方面，在我們未有確切的成績讓校外人士知道時，這類測試亦可作參考之用。
