Which class is your girl in?  Mine is in 1E....

And I am a very late cat moew......
Did you try the apple wedges?  I tried once, but still it turned yellowish after soaked in salty water.  So, instead, I gave her some cherry tomatos.  How about you, what do you usually prepare for your girl?

My girl is in 1C. I tried apple and my girl said okay.  I usually pack her some fruit for the recess and half a sandwich for eating in the 'nanny van'.  she said she is sooooooo hungry after school.

Dear Senior MCSPS parents,

May I know when the quiz weeks will normally be, as the school calendar just mentioned about the test weeks for each term?  As I am a working mother and I go home so late every nite, I usually have no time to review her homework, let alone studies.  Please advise.

There will be 1 - 2 quizzes for English/Chinese/Maths before the Test week.  If there is a quiz, there will be no dictation since they are on the same day of the week.

The teachers will give you notice about 1 week, sometimes 2 weeks, before the quiz.  So, you should have sufficient time to prepare with your girl.

The homework is not a lot for a P.1 student, so you should review her work no matter how busy you are.  (You can do it even if your girl is sleeping already.)  Otherwise, you won't know how she is doing at her studys.  If she can handle her homework alone, then the quiz is not really a big problem.  If you find any error in her homework, you should find out the reasons, say, it is because of careless mistake or she really doesn't understand the work.  If it is the later, you should teach her, so that she understands what was taught by the teachers.  If it is the former, you will need to train her to be more careful.

As long as the girls understand what they learnt, the quiz is not really difficult.  So don't worry.

Thanks so much for your sharing, I will try my best to review her work.  So, would the quizzes be in the middle of each term?  There is a notice saying that there will be one quiz for each term only, so altogether there are three quizzes and three tests throughout the year.  I think I really have to squeeze some time for her.

In the meeting with teachers on 8/28, the subject of Maths may have 1 or 2 quizzes in each term.

What is a "library folder" ?

My daughter was requested to bring in a "library folder"  She described to me that it is a folder with some "strips" at the edge, but she had no idea where to get it.

There will be 1 or 2 quizzes for Chinese, English & Maths before the test of each term.   They will be about 20% of the marks in the report, the test is 80%.  So, if you see the full marks is 10 of the quiz, it is likely that there will  be another one before the test week.

What she mentioned should be the folders she received from school at the very beginning of September.  The ones they got this year has 3 folds with several tab areas on the right open edge.  This should be what she said about the "strips".  

She got a few plastic folders with different colours, blue, pink, red, yellow, green & one with colourless.  Each colour is for different subjects to hold the supplementary, like red for Chinese, blue for English, yellow for Maths.  I think the colourless one is for Library.

We have not yet received such folders set.  Perhaps, her class has not yet distributed the folders to the students.

Last year, the folders were given to my girl on the 2nd day of school term started.  This year, my girl received them in the first few days of September, that's why I know what your girl mentioned.  

Since the teacher asked your girl to bring it back, supposed the folders should be distributed to them.  Please double check with her.  If she does not receive any of them, you can just give her a A4 size plastic folder for tomorrow.  You can buy this folder from any stationary shop, the only different will be the folders from school will have the school's logo and name on them.

My girl also has received those folders in the first week of Sept.  She is in 1E.  If you can't get a clear folder for her, just give her any folder(clear) but I think you may want to get a longer one.  I saw the set of folders and found out that the clear one for the library is the longest.  Longer than regular A4 size.  I don't know if there would be a reason for that or just happened to be the clear ones are longer.   But want to play safe.

You're right.  The clear one is in F4 size instead of A4.  However, to hold the reading reports, A4 size is OK.  I don't think the school will mind as long as the girls get all the paper filed properly.

So does it mean the girls need to complete reading reports in order to fulfill the requirments of reading those Level 1, level 2 and level 3?  Then they have quite a lot to do for every week.  Two reports each week?

I'm not sure if the school will make any change.  Last year, the reading report only need to fill in the following information in the Form A (My Reading Record) :

Date / Item 6 / Item 7 / name of the books / # of page / Do you like this book?

Put a "Check" mark for item 6 or item 7.  For the last column, colour the smiling faces. Colour all 3 faces if you like the books very much.

One row for one book.  So, this will become the list of books your girl read during that period of time.  The form stated it is for item 6 & 7 only.  However, since the school does not provide any other form for item 1 - 3, I used this form for them as well.  Therefore, I will mark it is item 1 - 3 on the 2nd or 3rd column if they are not item 6 or 7.  In order to make it clearer for the teacher, I counted the numbers of items and marked down the figures on the bottom of each page.

Base on this record, you will see if your girl meet the achievement of each level.  Normally, Level 3 should be achieved by the end of the school year.  (Only finished the books in the classroom should be 40 of item 6 & 40 of item 7.  They will get one of these books every week to bring back home to finish.)  Since MCS wants the girls love reading, you should help your girl to make this as her hobby.

May I know how many folder they get from school ??? My daughter just brought 3 A4 size folders (Blue, Purple & Green) !!!

I got 4 in A4 (Green, Blue, Red & Purple) + 1 F4 (Clear).  I think there should be 1 more A4 (Yellow).  

Need to check with my girl if she got this one or not.  You may double check with her classmates and see if the teacher only distributed 3 folders to them.  Last year, my girl's teacher hold the red one and said that it was kept in school and will distributed to them later.

Thanks very much for answering all the questions that we have!
So the number of items for each level is for the whole school year, not for each submission.   Since there are 3 submission dates, I thought they are for each term haha.
