I am not one of the RAPT members but I found that they have already devoted a lot of time and effort to the welfare of the students, such as the School Fair coming tommorrow.  During the past few week ...

The school fair is excellent!  Parents are very devoted and make a lot of food which are very delicious!   Books and toys are sold at very good bargain, all kids have a lot of fun!

Hi WYmom,

I am so happy to hear that you enjoy the school fair too.

I saw many SJS parents and students there because they are my neighbours.

It's so funny to design the game of  "Revenge".  I can't believe Peter Kenny is willing to be thrown by wet sponge.

Besides, Max Muller is so good to be a chef.  He can remember all the children's names.  During Sport's day, he even served us hot coffee and tea and distributed bottles of water to everyone.

The atmosphere in RC is really warm.

Tiffany媽咪,

Yes, I 100% agree with you.  I said thank you to one of volunteers there.  I feel guilty that I didn't help anything in this fair.

What's that?  May you elaborate more?  I also wanted to buy some books/VCD/DVD there but we rushed to leave for another event.

chingyu,

I think you missed the stall that set up by the year 4 students near the food corner. 4 CV students created and designed 20  Mr Men and Little Miss series of books using the IBO learner profile. The books are named Little Miss/Mr. Communicator, Little Miss/ Mr. Inquirer .........and so on. Perhaps you can approach their class teacher if you want to buy the product.

wewangwang,

It sounds funny... oh yes, when we rushed to leave near the main entrance, there was a smart boy wearing paper vest as an advertisement.  I don't know that stall was in charge by Year 4 students.  That boy asked us very politely if we mind following him to take a look.  However, we really got to leave in a rush.  Thanks for your information.  I will contact their class teacher.

My family also enjoyed the day very much.  Really appreciate all the effort the RAPT's School fair Committee had put into it and all the parent who contribute their time to help.

I agree with you totally.

That's why I am interested in knowing more about the negative feelings towards RAPT that some parents might have.

I am not a RAPT committee but have offered to help at the Fair. I personally know a few committee quite well. I know what they have been doing for the students/school. Many of them are doing things for RAPT all the time. Some even sacrificed their time during weekends (and even the term break in October) working for RAPT. I just think it is so unfair to accuse them without even trying to know what has been going on at school.

True that the RAPT have been too subtle. They have not done enough marketing of themselves. But there are only 10 or 11 core committee, half of them have full time jobs. All other people working with them are volunteers. May be if acdad has any good suggestions, he should offer to help out, and next year, he should even try to get into being one of the committee.

It was really great to see so many people at the Fair. I like the "student revenge" game. My child had lined up over 10 times to throw wet sponge at different teachers. He was "upset" he missed the part where Peter Kenny was the victim. :)

Yes. Things sold were cheap since they were donated by parents. One parent has actually donated 2 car loads of greeting cards. The cards were sold at mostly $1 or $2 dollars each. The books were cheap. We bought many by paying only $5 for 3; some were in fact new books. One interesting thing, though, someone donated 2 large cases of bras and t-backs, sold for something like $5 each. But not many people were interested; or may be I should say, not many people wanted to show that they were interested. :) Some of the toys were actually "cheap toys" but all were sold at $2 - 5, so my boy bought quite some. At around 3:20pm, they were selling every thing at only $1 even.
To match their theme topic "business" or "market place" the four Year 4 classes each had a stall selling things. 4CV students had written their own Little Miss/Mister books. 4PT students made handmade greeting cards. 4KB made handmade paper snow flakes. 4AS had a game stall.

A lot of food were available too. Too bad we had lunch earlier so we only had a hotdog later that day as snack, and Max Muller was the chef at the hotdog stand.

I think the police station also offered some help. I saw people taking photos at the police car with a pretty policewoman.

I also love the live performance by the secondary rock band at the outdoor basketball court. Younger children can actually see that rock or pop music are not a taboo at school and can be as appreciated by the adult world. BTW, the band sang very well, at least a lot better than some so called professional pop star.

It was wonderful yesterday. It was worth skipping other activities (my children were supposed to meet the tennis coach yesterday afternoon) and we have been talking about the event the whole evening.

A primary head has to love children. And Max Muller really does. We can always see him and Peter Kenny playing ball games with the students, some are small children in Years One or Two, in the morning at the basketball courts. Sometimes, Max Muller would walk around the school ground picking up garbages after the children have gone to their classes, especially after lunch time.

Hi everyone,

The first-ever school fair was indeed impressive albeit the organisation work was a bit chaotic. My another half helped to prepare some snack for sale but was not properly informed how to deliver etc. Yet we fully understand that the RAPT members and other volunteers are only amateur and we should not blame anyone.

To criticise is easy and talk is cheap. My wife is a working mom and it was really hard for her to prepare the snack given we usually arrive home at 8:00pm or beyond. So I have to salute to those who helped out in the fair. There are always rooms for improvement and I always dream about to earn enough money and then to turn to a full time RAPT member, but the reality is a bitter thing to swallow.

It doesn't mean that I would not expect anything from RAPT. As JennyL says we should contribute ourselves if we want to change anything. I guess the school fair has consumed a  lot of energy and since it is over perhaps RAPT members may have more time to work on other things. A newsletter is too much for the amateur. Only when there is a devoted genius who wants to do so otherwise let's save the time and energy. I know it is hard to squeeze time from our work to help out but if we "no pain no gain". My wife is helping as a reading mom every Friday and we hope to continue if work load permits.

Mr. Muller is really good! My girl had drawn a picture saying that Mr. Muller was picking up the rubbish and put it into the litter bin.

I am content to have made the decision to place my girl in RCHK and would very much love to help the school to excel.

Cheers

The books designed by year 4 students are really great.  My girl begged me to buy all 20 and I did to show my appreciation, although I thought they were quite expensive at the first glance.

Hi everyone,

I am glad that there are a few feedbacks on my previous paragraph about the RAPT. However, being a RAPT committee and the school fair volunteer may not be the only ways to contribute to the RCHK community.

Yes, the first and once- a- year school fair was a successful one in many aspects and we should be thankful to all involved. However, it was just a once-a –year one day event and had little implications to the overall development to our children. May be we should simply treat that just another day in an amusement park, but with some devoted parents participation and donations made for unknown purposes.

BTW, do we know exactly how the money raised from the fair would be used for the welfare and development of our children? Is there a target $? How much more we should get and what the RAPT is planning to get that?

And if it is not just $ we are talking about? How can we make sure other suggestions we make to RAPT are seriously discussed? Why the school did not discuss with RAPT before implementing changes affecting the students, such as changing the lunch time duration? What the RAPT would do exactly to act as a
“bridge” between the parents and the school if such kind of changes are not even consulted prior to the official notice?

Do we have to be a RAPT committee in order to ask the above questions and get serious answers?

Again, I am not trying to criticize on anyone but just to want to initiate some constructive discussion and improvements, just because I am a RCHK parent.

Thank you.

acdad,

You still have not told us who was the unfriendly and unhelpful RAPT committee.

Do we have to be a RAPT committee in order to ask the above questions and get serious answers?

I can only tell you that you will not get answers by posting your queries at BK. That's for sure.

Hello RC Parent,

I do realise your concern on this matter and I know that there are a lot of RC parents on this board who are very protective towards the school and that is quite understandable.

I am also one of the parent who has sponsored a stall and donated all my monies raised on that day (the fair).   Even though it  might not have been a large sum, it wasn't a small sum either.   Thus bringing to the subject on all the donations given to the school which I am sure I was not the only to have done so.   In my opinion, if the school is receiving donations from all sources, especially parents, then it should provide us with information on present and future purchases and I agree with some of your points, acdad.   Generally speaking, I think some parents would like to see a clearer view of RC's future plans and could then maybe offer more help, assistance or advice for the school.

As for RAPT, I too, am grateful to the parents who have volunteered and sacrificed their own precious time in assisting the school and us parents, for the welfare and betterment of our children.   However there are rooms for improvement and obviously would take some time to achieve since RC is still quite new.

Thank you.

回覆 #3 acdad 的文章

Hi JennyL,

Sorry that I can't really disclose that cos he/she  has been a good friend of mine for years and I understand some constraints he/she  raised could be real.

For example, it may be difficult to outsource some of the extra-curriculum activities by  getting permission from ESF or school, but difficult does not mean not possible, if that can really bring the betterment of our children, convenience to the parents, relief work load of the teachers without asking the scool to contribute other than the campus. We should at least try first!

However, it should not be so difficult to set up a more comprehensive website for the RAPT without begging the school to do that. The RAPT should have the access and the right to modify the content of her website independently. With a better and more visible website that should be updated and designed by the RAPT itself, RAPT  can accomplish  a lot more.

As a friend of his/her, I know I have already got an answer from him/her that he/she is not keen on the above suggestions as it may involve a lot of time of his/her or the RAPT to accomplish that.

However, as a RC parent, I would still want to know what can be done , if that should be done.

For your information, I have given him/her some information of more than one organization which are willing to custom -made extra-curriculum programs to schools.

Personally, I am in the manufacturing field  and I am ready to contribute once the reqt would fit into my catagory.

And I do beleive there are parents in the related fileds of I.T., dentists, medical, travel agencies, furnitures, toys , printing, healthy shoes, school bags, uniforms . If the RAPT can gather these parent resources effectively and efficiently, we can contribute a lot more to the school and the students with only a fraction of the mkt price and increase the product lines and revenue of the RAPT without asking for mandatory membership subscription fees, and may be even enough  to compensate those devoted parents with $ who are spending hours of their precious time in the school.

Thank you.
