Nice to hear from you! I've tried to call you last week to check if you were around but no answer.  Take good care of yourself & Wing Wing. Is she able to attend the phonic course?  Do enjoy your holiday in HK.

My son has started his Chinese Reading Course. The classroom is too simple (just tables & chairs) but my son does like it. (because no toy, so the teacher made him paper planes etc) They've assigned a teacher to teach him alone. As today is the 1st day, so she basically talked to him & played with him and finally completed his first 'reading' text.  He said he wants to go again & again so I guess he likes it. I'll bring some picture books & ask the teacher to teach him tomorrow.

As it's too hot, I've decided not to let him attend more classes in the afternoon, better stay home to rest or we do something else.

It seems that you are busier than before you quited your job.  So, don't worry if one day you want to be a full-time mommy.  Your son as well as your computer will kill your time, he...he....

If the Chinese course is good, I will definitely enrol for Wing.

這類節目在上海通常不滿座, 到時一定有空位坐.坐在空位的也有很多是搏大霧的 門口當日亦有黃牛票減價速銷, 例如Witney Houston去年原價千多元的頭等票, 最後以500元2張出售.

Oliver and I always hide in the bedroom. My bedroom is my working place and his dinning place...   I didn't turn on the sitting room air cond till my elder son is back to home, cos' it was a windy day yesterday.

It's windy and feel better today. All of us are expecting the thundery storm...   
Hopefully the temperture will turn down to 33C on Thurs, due to the rain.

Oliver has running nose now. It may be caused by the air cond. I adjust the temperture to 26C and my husband always asks me to turn it off.... :evil:  He says it's no good to the kids...   I tell me that it's impossible or all of us will 中暑....

If Oliver is still no good, I may take him to hospital tmorrmow morning.

Velma and Tina can't come, I'll book a table for 5 pax? You, me, Monica, Sandy & Sally, under Miss Yuan at 12:00 noon.  Velma's husband called me, he has found an ayi to cook bfast, lunch & dinner for her as she is not feeling well.

My new ayi seems OK, willing to listen and hard-working (a bit slow & not smart-e.g. does not know how to prioritize her work) I have not asked her to cook. She works from 1:30pm - 7:30pm, Rmb 1000/month, not included lunch & dinner.

My son poo in his bathtub, I kept yelling at him and ayi just arrived and said, "let me clean it, let me clean it."

BTW, I want to buy the outdoor paddle for him but it's over Rmb 280, not including the air bump (Rmb80), it's big enough for 2 adults & 2 babies. Still considering if it's too hot to play water in the balacony?

Have u been to any 'Early MBA' induction class? I just find that they have branch in Pudong, just next to Gymboree. My friend paid for 20k for 2 yr, i.e. less than 200 per lesson (2 hrs). The price seems ok.

I've called Early MBA and they asked me to join a free lesson, but Pudong is too far. Rmb200 per lesson is expensive! Remember we're in China not HK.

I've started our homeschool English lessons for a week.  As my son already knows the letter sounds, I am repeating each letter sound per day and teaching him to blend. (it takes 15-20 mins/day) He is doing OK, able to blend some 3-letter-word.  Besides blending, I am teaching him 1 word per day (according to what he wants) and a few sight word per day (according to the Dolch word list).

How's the Letterland course? How's the progress of Wing Wing's learning?

I've been to the Early MBA in Pudong today. I won't consider it so far and not many students in Pudong. They will mix up all the 3-6 yr old kids. Traffic is another question. I will visit another 'high-class' learning school in pudong next week, it's ichool which charge RMB100/hr. To be honest, RMB100 is the mid-level price. The local play centre is around 60+ per lesson.

When I went to Gymboree, they introduced BabyArt to me. Anyone of u been to there? It's located in HQ Parkson.

I also try to arrange the home study time to Tsun Tsun. But seems that it is uneasy to my case.

I went to Gymboree today. It's better than what I expected. The atmosphere and hardware are good. The teachers are friendly too.

My husband is going to entertain his clients in the coming weekend again! It's the 3rd weekend! I have warned him or he has better to chane the job.

Are you looking for playground for Tsun Tsun? I guess the one in Zhang Shan Park quite good, only Rmb585 for 3 months, once a week (Saturday/Sunday).

幼儿识字的意义
（一）        有利于开发婴幼儿全脑潜能，提高智商。
1982年英国著名科学杂志《自然》发表了一篇短文，震动了世界。科学家们对英美法德日五国儿童进行智商测查，结果是：英美法德四国儿童平均都是100，唯独日本儿童智商为111；在英美法德各国100名儿童里，智商达130的，各国都只有2名，唯独日本有10名。科学家们最终得出的结论是：因为日本孩子学了汉字。并对日本儿童的智商作了详细的测查：6岁入小学时，没识汉字孩子的智商平均也是100，同欧美四国孩子的智商一样； 5岁开始学汉字，入小学前学1年，智商可达110；4岁开始学，入学前学2年，智商可达120；3岁开始学，入小学前学3年汉字，智商可达130以上。安子介先生和郭可教先生在<汉字科学的新发展>一书中指出,根据对只用拼音文字的法国人,只使用汉字的上海人和既使用汉字又使用假名的日本人大脑有关部位受伤后,在说话,阅读,书写上出现障碍的情况进行深入研究,得出结论:拼音文字主要是音码在大脑左半球上发生作用,而汉字是形码,音码,义码在大脑两半球上同时发生作用.所以,拼音文字可称为”单脑文字”,汉字可称为”复脑文字”.针对性国内外种种有关汉字认知与大脑两半球关系的不同看法,郭可教与杨奇志二们先生又对正常人进行了实验,结论依然是汉字认知具有”复脑效应”。汉字的表意性，方块性，正适合于幼儿右半球皮层发育比左侧更快的特点，最适宜于幼儿整体模式识别和自然记忆能力极强的认知特点。所以对幼儿进行科学识字教育，不只是有利于右脑的开发，而是有利于大脑左右两半球的谐调发展，有利于全脑智力的开发。
（二）        有利于培养婴幼儿良好的道德品质
江泽民总书记在第三次全国教育工作会议上指出：“思想政治素质是最重要的素质。”实践证明，婴幼儿科学识字教育有利于孩子良好品德的熏陶。因为婴幼儿科学识字教育不只是一个字一个字地学认，同时，根据婴幼儿接受信息的特点，创造适合的书本环境，婴幼儿可以一段一段地学认。我们提供给孩子的都是内容健康的课文，孩子一边听配乐的录音磁带朗诵，一边看课文，不知不觉中耳濡目染，受到良好的品德的教育。
（三）        有利于普通话的推广
在方言地区进行婴幼儿科学识字教育的实践证明，婴幼儿科学褒字教育是推广普通话的有效方法。凡是按照要求进行“听读”的幼儿园，孩子们普通话的学习效果都非常好，因为录音磁带内容是由说标准普通话的播音员朗读的。孩子模仿能力极强，越小越突出。同时，经过婴幼儿科学汉字教育，孩子的注意力，观察力，反应力，分析力，记忆力，语言表达能力，形象思维，逻辑思维，知识面等等，也都能比较充分地发展。0—6岁（特别是0—3岁）是婴幼儿语言，思维和个性形成与发展的极其重要的关键期。此时，为婴幼儿创设出适合而优质的全母语环境，对孩子的良好品德以及其他智力和非智力素质的培养，意义非同一般。

How are you all?  It seems that you are now busy on searching extra course for your kids in SH.  Sound interesting.  I haven't thought about this as I feel that I would only bring my daughter out for leisure during weekend.        

When I come back to China, I think I need to consider enrol some course for my daugher.  I am too lazy..... Hope to have your advice when come back.

The Course that my daughter attended currently is a kind of playgroup offered by a Child Care Centre where they use Letterland's materials / books during the course.  I don't have any expectation on the course but just aimed at giving chance for my daughter to meet and play with other kids.  My friend's daughter has attended the course from this Centre for a year.  My friend said it should be OK.

Glenn Doman flashcards method does not work on my son. In his case, he can really 'learn' after he understands what we're talking.

When you come back, I share with you my teaching method as Wing Wing is 3+, won't be any problem. Just spend 10-20 mins/day is enough. (be prepared that you've to learn & study too, I am preparing each lesson one day in advance)  If you're lazy, you can send Wing Wing to me every Saturday and I'll teach her.   

I've started the phonics program for one week, my son knows all the letter sounds but I'm repeating one sound per day and introduce blending to each lesson. (I feel it's better to follow the program & material)  After each lesson, I will use the letter word to blend some words & ask him to read, he is doing very well and able to read the book 1 on his own. (It's very easy, e.g. Sam, Pam, Hat, Bag)
