Hi ALAL,

I used to clap hands with my child - One syllable one clap. For example, (clap) beau (clap) ti (clap) ful. I think most children can do it without difficulty.

I use talking dictionaries, like Longman and Oxford, to identify the pronunciation.

I always mix up a & e too. There is no other way but practice more. Whenever reading a word, pronounce the individual sound first, then combine then into the sound of a word.

Thank Jokey. My son can identify syllable if I read the word to him. But if he see a long word in a book, he can not identify correctly how to divide the word into the syllables and read?

My son is now studying Letterland in his kindergarten.  He loves it so much.  It seems that he had made friends with the letterlanders, where he sings letterland songs, makes their sounds, etc. at home.  Since I want to communicate better with him, I took the Letterland Parent Course held by ETC last month.  From learning Phonics' perspective, I think Letterland's presentation methodology is very good.  You'll find it very easy to memorise, pictures and stories are impressive.  For younger children, I think this tool is very good.  Cos, I don't have chance to learn other Phonics learning kits, I can only share my experience on Letterland.

My girl is studying letterland at the kindergarten.  In fact I do not have much concept in letterland, especially the difference between letterland and jolly phonics.  Since you had joined some parental course on this subject, would you mind to PM me know infor on those parental letterland courses.

Haven't read this topic for a long time. It seems that you son has quite good progress on pronunciation. What do you mean by dividing syllable? Does it mean that they can tell how many 'sound' a word has? My son can read some long words from the book. I think he does not know how to divide. He just guess the pronunciation by himself. Let me start teach him dividing long word into shorter one tomorrow la.

My sons are now 15mths old.  When should I start "letterland" to them??  Is the programme for 2 & above.  Kindly advice.
