It's already a dilemma whether to send a kid overseas, not to mention at what age.
I agree to giving a kid a wider exposure to the 'world' - if my pocket allows. And it's quite different from sending a kid to an IS in Hong Kong.
As someone pointed out, the earlier you send your kid overseas, the heavier will be the financial burden - that is definitely an issue to most of us.
As to languages, I would be happy if my kid can master the two main languages - Chinese and English - at certain 'working' level - for day-to-day communication (and hopefully for his future career pursuits). Therefore, I tend not to be too greedy to have him pick up a native-British or -American accent. To be honest, too strong an accent might not necessarily do you much good in this increasingly globalised world of business.
In preparing my kid to go overseas for further studies some day (yet to decide when), I would hope my kid could have a good grip of English - the world's lingua franca as of today - but not denying him an opportunity to learn the Chinese language.
