ANChan59,
Thanks for your sharing. Sounds like the traditional school is more reliable from your opinion.
I have selected HKUGA among DSS schools. I am impressed by its spacious school site and the creative curriculum.
Look at different angle.
E.g. :
If my son, most likely in Band 2 or end of Band 1. Top notch school are not possible, and I still prefer EMI. Honestly, not much choice, either go for good Band 1 and Band 2 CMI schools (27.5% EMI places, 33% Band 1 student), or new DSS.
Also, my son cannot handle a lot of homework, assessments or examinations, I will be penalised indirectly, I will go for new DSS....
Or some may prefer new campus, happy learning, creativity etc, if you think all this are important for your selection, just go for it. But remember that's your choice or your kids' choice.
My son's view:
1. He preferred CMI initially (easy to learn and propaganda from EMB), after travelling to USA by himself and had study missions in both Australia and USA. English is an Universal Language, he understands EMI is a must, not an option. He wants to go to study in USA or UK in the future.
2. He likes spacious campus and good facilities.
3. Creativity, language, extracurricular activities can be taken outside school, nice to have.
4. He preferred Cheung Chuk Sang instead of LS because many friends will pick CCS no one pick LS. We agreed with him.
5. Either Christian schools or no religious schools.
6. Happy learning is a dream for him, but he wants to achieve something, he still needs to work hard. Either learn it now, or learn it later in the society in a painful way.
7. Keen competition from China is a global trend, Putonghua is a must not just Cantonese and English. |
