Dommom,
My son got the blood test right after the 'black out' in the hospital.  The test revealed that the blood sugar level was normal.  I will visit a government child psychiatrist next week and may visit a private child 腦神經doctor later.  Just to find out the cause and take some precautionary measures.

Hi mrsphcheung,

you should have your son do the MRI as well. My son was always in the hospital.

One time I saw a girl(about 14-15 yrs old). She always got the "black out" problem and she've been in teh hospital for a few times but no reason can be found. At that time, the hospital finally could finally provide the service(cuz' it's always fully booked) of MRI and maybe some ultra sound(cuz' I saw her hair full of gel). This time they finally found out the reason - it's epilepsy.

There is no 抽搐 as well for her or you can bearly see the 抽搐 problem.

But the frequency of "black out" just getting more and more for her.

見到呢個topic,真係好好, 因為係27/12 呀仔午睡時,突然第一次全身抽(搐),雙手緊握, 眼向上, 口有小量液體流出,整個人身體都好硬, 好彩當時工人睇到, 姐姐說嘗試打開佢隻手, 打唔開, 叫佢無反應,於是即刻打俾我,當我叫她將呀仔抱起時, 姐姐說呀仔叫了一聲,全身軟了.之後很累又睡了.

那時很害怕, 我又不在家, 呀仔又無發燒,只有小小傷風,雖有吃藥,但相信不會這樣引起. 因曾聽過A仔是比較容易抽筋, 所以真係好怕,呀仔只有4歲人仔, 但可以點呢?

我沒有送他去醫院, 而相熟的醫生那天也放假, 故第二天早上才往看醫生, 而他亦說若有第2次發生時就要考慮吃藥及照MRI, 但呀仔2歲多時已check無事, 不過醫生說,通常不是即時發生時去照, 很多時結果都是正常, 另再發生時, 可以打999,因為唔知會抽幾耐, 同埋都係要我們留意發作時間同最緊要...鎮定.

其實真係唔知可以點做, 只望真係第一次,亦係最後一次, 因為如果俾我見到, 我真係驚唔識處理.

仲有咩野我要注意?

我阿仔的醫生說凡是大抽筋都要 call 白車送急症室，因為分分鐘醒唔番！就算很快醒番都要送急症室，因為24小時番發的機會很高。醫院很重視癲癇症的，不會因你醒番又 call 白車而覺得小題大做。上次我阿仔第二次發作醒番無送醫院，結果俾醫生鬧。

通常送了急症室後要留院觀察一天，然後排期照CT、腦電波等，這些長期病患由公立醫院跟 case較好。

Thank you very much for your valuable information.  I will ask the government doctor for CT scan (腦素描) as well as MRI if possible.  I strongly feel that I am holding a bomb now as I must keep my eyes on my son all the time.

真是福無重至，禍不單行。我個Ａ仔既有發展障礙又有epilepsy，真係唔知搞得邊樣好，而家唯有看医生、做檢查，最壞打算就是食藥。

Thank you for your information.  我都覺得政府的跟進服務比較理想，我問過而家最出名的腦兒科專家，初次諮詢已收HK$1xxx 至HK$2xxx，而且要做很多測試，又要覆診，計落要五位數字先可找出原因，也許無原因。我以前已受過私家兒童精神科医生的教訓，多數看政府，最多等耐Ｄ。留番Ｄ錢做訓練重好。

Dear Mrs. Cheung,

Nice talking to you just now and I definitely understand your feelings as my daughter suffers from epilepsy since 6 months old.  We start to worry her having autistic features when she's 2.5 years old.  Now we have to manage both her complicated seizures disorder and behavorial problem.

One thing that you mentioned having gel on the hair, that test should be the EEG.  MRI and EEG are essential tests for epilepsy but very often you may find them normal but still the child will have seizures.

Regarding the future management of seizures, both my private doctor and QM will give us a rectal valium (Diazapem) medicine so that we can apply when the seizure does not stop within 5 minutes.  This can shorten the seizure time while you are waiting for the ambulance.  It is a very common medicine for children with seizure that we should keep at home.  You may ask the doctor during your next visit.  Psychologically we feel much safer as it prevents a prolonged seizure that may harm the child.

Lastly we can only pray for our children so that they will get the protection from God but not from us as we are so limited and helpless very often.

For the dr. that I referred to you, 1st consultation is $8XX and follow up is $4XX.

He is cheaper but I found he is a good dr. among them. He is also very experienced in treating epilepsy.

I still suggest you to have a private Dr. for follow up and in the meantime, you can ask for a 2nd opinion as well.

The doctor that Crybeebee is referring is the same doctor that the neurologist in QM recommended me before if I would like to seek a second opinion from private neurologist.  So I think it is worth seeing.

睇完醫生同聽完妳地咁多位媽咪心得/意見, 一定會記住要去醫院,因為真係唔知之後會發生咩事, 亦打算提早排兒科跟進(因07年3月先見兒科),已通知左學校呀仔的情況, 亦叫姐姐有事就送院同保持鎮定(今次佢都好驚但好好叻, 抵讚),不過希望無咁既事需要.

真係, 照顧/教導A仔已經不易,而家仲要擔心多一樣, 真係心血小啲都唔掂, 唯有努力啲, 堅強啲, 依靠神多啲.

My son does not take any medicine.  He was so healthy when he got the 'black out'.  He was very very active and normal after the 'black out'.  It seems that he is so 'normal'.  The doctor cannot explain why he has this situation, just says that many people have similar situation.  Thank you.
