More and more prestigious schools go private/DSS, leaving less and less prestigious schools staying government aided. Nowadays, (in my opinion) only Maryknoll, St Stephen girls, maybe BPS, maybe St Mary, can still maintain an excellent standard high enough and worth giving up DGS. Not everyone can afford to pay for private/DSS school fee and parents can save the money for external activities and still attend schools with similar high standard.
I know a few girls who gave up DGS seats and accept Maryknoll etc, and they must have a reason.

Maryknoll, St Stephen girls, BPS,  St Mary are in the one level,  DGS is in another level, I found some girls giveup  MaryKnoll go to DGS

DGS is the top school in Kowloon, but my friend chose St. Paul's Co-ed instead of DGS a couple of years ago in order to give her girl a co-ed environment.

Giving up Maryknoll and go to DGS is quite understandable for affluent families.

我想 成績方面 good hope 和 st mary 唔係相差太遠
不過 good hope d 課外活動比較 勁
st mary 我唔知
我女兒讀 good hope
good hope d 老師和 sister 就無咩愛心
對著那些校規
做家長也很無奈
校風也沒有想像中好

在九龍 ..我覺得 heep yunn 成績和課外活動 跟good hope
差不多好..甚至better..
我 prefer heep yunn 老師校長 都會用鼓勵的方式
不會好似 good hope 咁
只會 用罸 的

當然 kowloon district 最 top 是 DGS 啦

我女兒是小學部升上中學的
小學比中學好
起碼校風淳樸
不過小學成績好的..他們都選 heep yunn , maryknoll , DGS..升中..也不選 GOOD HOPE
之前雖然知道女兒升上中學會比較辛苦
但也想 GOOD HOPE 起碼 校風不錯
又怕大抽獎..不知派去什麼學校
豈料升上中學..發覺校風沒有我想像中好

there are always exception....
i know 2 girls who gave up DGS and choose Maryknoll and St stephen girls instead! - for whatever reason.
as such, some girls gave up DGS and go for SPCC etc etc etc etc.
it's hard to compare, they must have a reason!

No doubt DGS sure win and far better than all schools.

It doesn't only mean high academic level but also the girls there are very smart in all areas.

For St mary, I think Maryknoll is better especially now St Mary is chinese primary school. But i think the Trough train system attract more people to there.

不過佢班主任勸我地唔好, 因為佢個女讀緊, 如果我個女讀會辛苦, 所以我揀0左德望!

If they list all the requirements in advance, i don't think any problems, it's just part of the game.  You know the importance of discipline
