How about St. Clare's Colleage (secondary school) Vs True Light Girl's Colleage / True Light Middle School (Kowloon). I learn from the secondary school ranking that True Light (either one) ranks much higher than St. Clare's Colleage:

True Light ranks within the first 30
St. Clare's ranks at 94

Why is it such a big difference? Or if the secondary school ranking posted under "Education" at yahoo is not a reliable information?
Due to the above, I'm concern about my final decision in choosing the right primary school for my daughter.

What's is your opinion on this? Please share. Thanks a million in advance!

Regarding the ranking of Secondary School, it's definitely not reliable.  You will even find BPS on the list.  I am not quite sure about the exact ranking of True Light and St. Clare, but I can say that their difference should not be too obvious.  

For me, the main difference between the two school are their religion and the location.  You can choose according to your own situation.

Thanks for your advice on the secondary school ranking. I actually find it quite ridiculous when I first see it in yahoo as the ranking no. of some famous school, like marymount is far beyond my guess. And it didn't tell what basis they take to rank these seconday schools. It really confuses people.

Dear Charlotte mom,

Thanks for your advice on both True Light and St. Clare's. Today, I got more positive comments on St. Clare's from 2 of my colleagues. The only thing I should now consider is the distance between home and school as we live in Mei Foo. In fact, it takes only about 25 mins if we drive from Mei Foo to St. Clare's via the West Harbour Tunnel. However, the tunnel fee is at sky high price. We found a guy operating private school bus who offers HK$1500 per month for this route, i.e. Mei Foo to St. Clare's. I think it's quite reasonable. Anyway, now I know that my preference goes to St. Clare's but i still have to struggle about the travelling arrangement if we definitely pick St. Clares's. Final option is to move close to the school. It really is a headache to me!

The maximum capacity of St.Clare's is 18 classes x 45 students (in one am/pm session), which is around 800 students. So 600 something won't be crowded anyway. In fact, the school has tried to close the kindergarten so as to allow more place for the primary (mainly for special rooms) but in view of the demand in the area and in order to maintain the quality of P.1 students admitted, it resumed the operation of the kindergarten again.

I am the old girl from SC. I like this school very much and the english standard are high as well. I left this school on P6 and went to Canada at that time. I am planning to send my girl back to SC as well although I am living in Kowloon side.

May I know will they count some mark if the mother is the old girl while interview?

Why you said "St. Clare's 失驚無神知道原來轉左英小"?  St. Clare's Primary School is an English Primary School from the beginning (It is a private school).  The English standard is unquestionable.  Not many primary school something like "Eng Lit" starting from Primary One.

平心而論,St.Clare's現在不能真係叫英小,因為除英文科外,數學都係中文,不過隨著小一全日制開始,小一已經開始英數,而校方都更加在意英文教學,我個人會看好這校的前景.
雖然現在不是英小,但佢地的英文底子都很好,在小四開始,常識科都係一半中一半英,講真我都覺好深,所以即使將來佢地有些學生不幸不能直升自己中學,去到其他英中都全無問題.

嚴格來說，英文學校的定義應是除中文科外，所有科目都是以英語授課語言。因此:

St.Clare's / Sacred Heart / St Joeseph / Raimondi / St Paul's Co-ed / Wah Yan / St Mary's

以上都不算是英文小學，因為這些學校的數學/常識/聖經...等科目是以中文授課的。

但補充一句，有誰會說這些學校的英文程度唔掂呢？

Actually, I am a old girl of St. Clare's.   Some subjects would be changed from Chinese medium  to English medium from P.4.  Therefore there would be a smooth transition to Secondary.  The English standard of Clarian can be well proven by all alumni.

I think they might grant credit if you're a Clarian. Anyway, the interview itself is pretty straight forward. The teacher just asked my daughter some simple questions both in english and chinese as well as calculation like single digit addition and substraction. The interview lasted for about 20 minutes. The school then advised me that interview result will be known by a week's time. They actually call me a few days later that they admitted my daughter.

It's nice to know someone who will pick St. Clare's regardless of the travel distance. I live in the Kowloon side too and my preference goes to St. Clare's rather than True Light (Kowloon Tong). Have you figure out what the travel arrangement would be? I called up the guy who operates the Mei Foo - St. Clare's route in my previous message. However, he cannot tell me when the pick up time is yet. The school starts at 8:00 a.m. which means the latest pick up time would be 7:00 a.m.? Can anyone share info about private school bus operting routes between Kowloon side and schools at the H.K. side?
