我一d都唔覺得S.C AND KENT係睇父母職業同學歷喎    我同我老公都係普通打工仔,又唔係咩名校畢業,但係兩間都收喎   
老實講,KENT收我個仔,我都預左,因為佢果日狀態大勇,有問必答,反而S.C,我一心無唸過比佢讀,只係唸住等個仔知道咩叫INTERVIEW,去WARM UP下..所以我果日都無請假同個仔去考,只係叫我老公去,哈哈..亞仔果朝早真係無咩狀態架,老公話佢有答老師問題,但細聲到要老師放隻耳仔去佢咀邊先聽到架.又無咩表情喎,死下死下咁...我唸住學校一定唔收架,我一D誠意都無喎,試問有幾多個考生唔係有媽咪陪住去考??
但係我竟然收到信收左,仲要上午班TIM....
我都唔知點解,我有朋友話其實老師都好睇"眼緣"架,佢覺得你小朋友得意既,會比高D分架..

if i were your friend, i would send my son to Yew Chung, as the curriculum is better than SC.. but $$ is more more.

我亦有個朋友, 兩公婆都係律師, 係大行工作, 單係個老公月入十萬, 個老婆生左個囝之後仲轉埋做全職家庭主婦, 二人名校畢業, 個囝咪一樣入唔到sc.

as i concern the English standard of Kent is not good enough.. but it accepts my son for am class, but waiting list on SC..

Oh!  I never rely on the school to make my son to have a good English standard.  However, the school teaches my boy English using full sentence such as "I am three years old.", "My name is Mr. xxx (his own name)." & "This is an apple."  When we read a children's English magazine together, he asked me to name the things on the magazine.  I named it but he corrected me, "This is a dinosaur."

Parents' support is the main point.  We use flash cards (not the school's ones) to teach him both Chinese and English at home.  He is able to read simple Chinese and English books by himself.  We play phonics VCD at home and he learns it fast.  Yes, I'll booster his phonics skills starting from the second half of K1 or K2.

Parent's attitutde is critical.  My relative's girl is a K2 SC student.  She is pushed to join an international kindy in am and goes to SC in pm because her mother wants her to have high English standard wor!  Does it sound ridiculous to you?

I can't recall which kinder my friend sent his boy to, but he's now in the DBS primary school

Me too! My girl said she loves yew chung after she visited this kinder in the opening day. But I am not rich enough.  :cry:

I heard a case.... my brother's sons who studied in a famous traditional kinder which in hk side ( st. Jxxxxx) , that kinder's teaching methods and standard are similar to kentville, also no phonics , no NET. After 3 years study, my brother said he regrets about sent his sons to this famous kinder because the kids are not good in english especially the english oral. In fact , his sons also studied in British Coxxxx every sat to improve english since 4 years old. But......

but the boy who lived next to me, he is studying in Kent K3 now and his English is very good. His pronunciation is very accurate. With good "r" sound, etc.

BK parents here also mentioned that kent teachers will correct kids pronunciation. I think they really have their own method.

Don't worry, the English standard of Kent is very good.  It's not problem at all to connect to DBS, LS, MCS......
My kids try British CXX for 6 months and I can't find any improvement on my kids.

Oh!  Seems that you are not certain of your choice now as you claimed that you will not register Kentville bor!  

I have a friend whose daugther is a Kentville graduate 2 years ago.  She is now in St Paul Convent.  Up to now, I don't hear any bad comments about her English standard wor!  As a matter of fact, when my friend knew that my boy was accepted by Kentville, she said a phonics class was enough to booster my boy's English.  As I said before, I don't totally rely on the school.  Parents are the main motivation in a child's language development.

Not to mention BC lar!  Nottingham has a long list of SC students lar (and some Kentville students, I believe)!        If you want NETs for your daughter's 3 years' kindy life, there must be one near your home lor!  My child used to attend a billigual nursery (with NET), but his English was .....     Now, I'll ask myself how much I have put the effort into my boy's language development before blaming the school.

For your reference : SC starts its English readers for K2 using ORT Stage 1.  Do you think the level is too simple or just right for a K2 student?

Last year, I asked some of my friends (they are teachers) working in an international school to give comments about the two kindergartens.  Surprisingly, they did not give bad comments about Kentville, but pulled their faces down when hearing SC.  They said they sometimes enrol SC's K2 students to their Year 1 (equal to K3), they find their Chinese, English and Maths are not up to the standards.  Anyway, I believe that SC still has brilliant students.  All the cases mentioned here are individual and unique.    :

Yes! You are right! My boy had his kinder years in Kentville and he is now studying in LS now, I don't have to worry about his English Standard, he always got 9x marks in Test and 100 in dictation. I think parents input is more important. I never give up to send my boy to some English lesson before he study K1 and the lesson still go on until now. After 3 years study in Kentville, I believe the English training is quite good, this is what my boy's private NET teacher told me.
