Actually I don't mind people criticisng my English as this is only my second language.  This is also one of my reasons to send my son to SPCC as this is a Chinese primary.  I always believe it would be more effective for a young kid to use their mother language in learning.  Besides, I have my role to play and I don't want to take over the full responsiblity of the teachers.

" ... your English or your son WOULD not attain high English standard that SPCC REQUIRES TO maintain."

So please do not use your stanard to measure others !!!

乜你真以為 另一間唔谷 ？　人地小二 21個生詞，每個五次，聽日交，重有明天有第二科默書，仲有其他家課　。咁你話使唔使work hard 呢 ？

請放心, 我發夢都冇諗過另外一間唔谷,只不過我好少聽到另外一間有這類的adverse comments.  我提及個ＳＰＣＣcase 對我來說很shocking.  唔通人地攞８０＋就係冇work hard咩?  其實重點唔係邊間谷邊間唔谷咁簡單既問題，當然更加唔係有人話其中一間谷就以為人地話另外一間唔谷咁膚淺啦！我覺得個問題如果ＳＰＣＣ真係咁會令到個小朋友冇哂自信．但聽聞另外個間出嚟ｄ女仔就好有自信喎！不過呢ｄ全部都係以訛傳訛聽番嚟，我地d局外人都係憑自已感覺同有限的資料發表吓感想啫，兩間學校真正既情況係點，等ｄ真正知情人士報料啦！

My daughter received offers from both school and we chose SPCC.  I cannot deny that the DGJS offer is very attractive, so that despite there are many reasons to support our decision, we still want to hear your opinion.  In fact, we did not tell this to many people as we know most of them would tell us to go for the more reputable DGJS.  But it is my child's choice also, she likes SPCC and the teachers at first sight.

Here are some reasons that we chose SPCC:-

1. Although both schools are of Christian origin, SPCC upholds the Christian faith in its daily in the school life.

2. We feel that teachers of SPCC are very caring and supportive, and we have the same feeling even now.  You feel that they treasure your kid and is a partner in developing your child.

3. SPCC offers a lot of extra-circular activities so that the child can learn everything in school and take school bus home (e.g arts, computer, mandarin, swimming, table tennis, drama, gymnastics, chess, Maths Olympia, etc.).  They also have a one-hour home work session after lunch for the child to do homework.  It relieves a lot of trouble of parents.

4.  The co-ed environment is not so competitive for girls.  The child also learns how to make friends with both sex.

Of course DGJS has tonnes of advantages too, not to mention the outstanding English standard.  Their students receive more respect too.

How would you comment on our choice and anaylsis  ?

To be fair, you are also using your standard to measure others. May be jomum's kids are not studying in DGJS/SPCC that why her English is not as good as you. Ha ha!! Although jomum may not be writing politely, I agree that if the parents do not have a high English standard, it is hard for both of them (parents and kids) to study in these demanding schools.

Congratulations to your girl!

Point 3 sounds fantastic to me.  The arrangement is so good that children learn to be independent by doing homework on their own while they still have time to do ECAs.  Would there be any teacher to assist them doing the homework?

另一間 低過90 分，先生亦會唔太高興，低過 80 亦要見先生 !唔好以為低過80 分見先生好大件事先得架，好多地區著名街坊小學都一樣 !

不管是否讀 demanding schools, 孩子能否成材、像個人, 父母 English standard 高不高不重要, 人格比較重要.

從我老闆個仔入左去spcc讀, 佢提起間學校都話好, 佢話d staff好好人(當時我唔信), 個仔讀左2年, 從來無背默之類, 只要求佢地背一d聖經金句, 而暑假作業, 都係d creative既野eg寫日記, 閱讀報告之類
最近我自己去聽talk, 去報考, 親身"接觸"過d staff, 俾我感受好深, 一間咁出名既學校, 職員完全無果種"狗眼看人低"既氣焰, 我去聽talk, 已經遲大到, 自己都唔好意思再周圍搵位, 是但企埋一邊就算, 反而係有個staff幫我搵位, 叫我埋去坐, 仲幫我整開個curtain等我望得清楚d
去交form, d校工, 門口老師, 對我呢個三九唔識七既人, 一樣好有禮貌, 有問必答, 笑住同我點頭, 我真係好impressed
比起其他"名校", 我只不過打電話去問小小資料, 都唔想答之餘仲幾乎即刻"給"線, 真唔明佢地點樣教化下一代(我唔係指拔萃, 我無接觸過佢地)

Agreed but I've never said that "人格" is not important. You are talking about different things.

Are you a Christian?  
I am quite regret that I have not applied the SPCC for my girl this year.  I have filled in the form but I have not submitted  - I think it's in HK side and the chance is extremely......... slim.  Too many competitors.  The most important point  is - It's too far away and take a long time to travel to school.  We are  Catholic not Christian (not the same religion of the school, I won't mind but I think this will also reduce the chance to get acceptance).   Anyway, I have a little bit regret.....

Both schools are Christian (Anglican) schools but the outlook is rather different.

St Paul's places more emphasis on moral and religiouis education.  Teachers give a lot of personal attention to the kids.  Girls tend to be more mellow.  The secondary section used to be rather "inward looking" in that apart from music festivals it did not take part in any inter-school activities, and it gave the impression that its students "kept to themselves".

DGJS stresses English a lot, and also trains girls to be "tougher".  There is less emphasis on religious education.  The secondary section is v. active in inter-school extra-curricular activities.  In this way they learn about dealing with students/people from outside their own background/surroundings.  

V difficult to say which is better than which.  There is  more "hype" about DGJS but traditionally St. Paul's does not like too much publicity.  A lot depends on your outlook, own background, expectation, etc.  I know many people who have been accepted by both, and who chose one over the other, for very different reasons.

我好後悔升小一時没有替我個囡報考，上學期尾先至去報插班生，可惜只考到waitlist，但期間所遇到啲職員，無論校工、教師，或是主任級，個個好nice，俾人感覺好好，更加想個囡考入去，所以出年一定會再考過。
